Whether it’s a collection of 20,000 potatoes or an arsenal of Legendary weapons, Starfield players always have precious stuff to store. And their starships are the only reliable cargo space they have while exploring the vast universe of the game. However, many players struggle to locate the ship storage within the cockpit. For Starfield fans sharing the same concern, this guide will provide a clear explanation of how to access the storage of any starship and store or retrieve items from it.
How to Locate Ship Storage
To access a starship's storage, pause the game and select "Ship." From there, press the X button to open the Cargo Hold menu and view the entire inventory. Alternatively, players can also access the ship's storage by interacting with the Cargo Hold console located next to the pilot's seat.
Aside from storage components, all starships are also equipped with safes, captain lockers, and crates. However, the capacity of these holders is significantly less than the actual ship cargo. As a result, they may not be able to accommodate larger or heavier valuables.
How to Store Items in Ship Storage
To store resources and materials, players should press the LB button in the Cargo Holder menu to open their inventory. Once the inventory is open, they can hover over the items and press A to put them away. Additionally, they may interact with the Cargo Hold console in the ship’s cockpit and “Transfer” items to it.
Storing items is only possible when players are inside the ship or have access to the Cargo Holder panel. Therefore, to unload their loot, players need to be in the proximity of their starship.
How to Retrieve Items from Ship Storage
Taking items from the ship storage is a straightforward process. In the pause menu, players should open the Ship section, select the items they wish to retrieve, and press A.
Retrieving items works regardless of the player's proximity to the ship. Whether they are near or far from the starship, players can access the Cargo Hold menu and add stored items back to their inventory.
While trading goods with merchants, select “Sell from the Ship Storage” to access stored items directly.
How to Increase Cargo Hold Capacity
For ship storage upgrades, players will need to talk to a Ship Services Technician. Interacting with the technician will open the ship builder menu, where players can purchase a larger cargo box. Of course, acquiring a bigger cargo component will cost Credits, but most players will be able to obtain one early in the game.
How to Get a Shielded Cargo Storage
In Starfield, players can store Contrabands in undetectable storage components called Shielded Cargos. To get these, players will either need to install modules such as the V101 or steal a starship that already comes with one.
Starfield is available now for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
