- The mod introduces new elements like custom points of interest, player homes, materials, creatures, and factions.
A dedicated Starfield player is working on a mod called "Dune - Project Arrakis," which will introduce the iconic sandworms from Dune into the game. This mod aims to replace Starfield's planet McClure 3 in the McClure System with Arrakis, the desert planet from Dune.
Starfield is Bethesda Game Studios' first new universe in over 25 years. Set in the 24th century, Starfield lets players explore a massive galaxy with over 1,000 planets. Players can find deep character customization, opportunities to form alliances with different Starfield factions, and space battles, all within Bethesda's classic open-world experience. Even with so much to do in Starfield, the modding community keeps adding new features and improving the game.
Bethesda Hopes Starfield Will Last as Long as Skyrim
Bethesda still has plenty of ideas for Starfield, and the developer hopes the space exploration game can last as long as the legendary title Skyrim.
The mod, called Dune - Project Arrakis, is the work of a dedicated modder known as questionthis on Nexus Mods. This mod turns Starfield's planet McClure 3 into Dune’s desert world of Arrakis. In a recent Reddit update, questionthis teased an exciting new feature: a massive sandworm. These giant creatures will not only wander the desert but will also dig underground to chase players. While questionthis admitted that the early versions of Dune’s sandworms are a bit rough, with some attacks looking awkward and about half of them not quite right, they assured players they’re working hard to make improvements.
Starfield Modder Adds Dune's Sandworms to the Game
Perfecting these huge worms hasn’t been easy for questionthis. One major issue is their transparency, which comes from using a Starfield creature model with a see-through layer of skin. This has led to some odd visual glitches that the modder is working hard to fix, trying to get the look right while also making sure the hitboxes work properly. It’s important to note that the sandworms are just one part of the Dune - Project Arrakis mod. It also features custom points of interest, player homes, new mineable and craftable materials added to those already in Starfield, and introduces new creatures and factions inspired by Dune.
Players can look forward to exploring settlements, meeting new NPCs, and taking on quests in the world of Arrakis. The mod features 60% sandy desert, home to sandworms, 20% rocky hills, a hot climate, a breathable atmosphere, and occasional sandstorms.
The Starfield modding community has been active since the game's release in September 2023. Dune - Project Arrakis shows once again what this active modding community can achieve, letting players explore one of sci-fi’s most famous worlds in Starfield in an exciting way.
