A grandiose mod that sought to incorporate the lands from Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind into Bethesda Game Studios' latest title, Starfield, has abruptly been canceled only a few days after its initial announcement. While it is disappointing that development on this fan-made project has been put on ice, this incident may serve as a good reminder for Starfield's modding community to keep their ambitions and expectations in check.
Just last week, a Redditor named New-Star-340 made a post on the r/Starfield subreddit outlining their plans to bring the lands of the Elder Scrolls franchise to Starfield. The modding project, simply dubbed Project Tamriel, aimed to make the entirety of Tamriel explorable on a single planet within Bethesda's space-faring RPG. It was said that every weapon, spell, item, and piece of armor from the Elder Scrolls series would painstakingly be enhanced and ported to Starfield. New-Star-340 even claimed that they and their modding team would recreate the quests from the last three mainline ES games as part of Project Tamriel, as well. Apparently, the plan was to release the mod in sections, with Skyrim being remade in Starfield first and Morrowind and Oblivion being ported afterward.
Starfield Mod Adds Helpful In-Game Compendium
A Starfield modder creates a useful new mod for the game that adds an accessible in-game compendium filled with planet information.
Unfortunately, though, this monumental endeavor will never see the light of day, as New-Star-340 recently confirmed in a response to VG247 that Project Tamriel is now officially canceled. According to the Reddit user, a lack of endorsement from the community was a major factor in determining their team's decision to end development on the ambitious Starfield mod. "After sharing the initial concept with the community, it became clear that the support we were hoping for just wasn't there," New-Star-340 claimed. They went on to say that "many fans voiced concerns" about the mod and expressed that they weren't "interested in seeing this project come to fruition." As such, New-Star-340's team concluded that the excitement they felt "wasn't shared by the broader community."
The Project Tamriel Mod For Starfield Has Officially Been Canceled
The modder continued on by saying that, although Project Tamriel has ceased development, they and their team would be willing to aid anyone else who wants to take up the tremendous task of bringing some of the many Elder Scrolls games to Starfield. "While this particular project won't continue, we hope that our experience inspires others in the modding community to pursue their ambitious ideas. If another team is interested in picking up where we left off, we would certainly support their efforts. For now, though, my team and I don't feel it's worth pursuing without the necessary backing and enthusiasm from the community."
Project Tamriel may never be made, but Bethesda fans still have a lot to look forward to when it comes to Starfield. In addition to an endless supply of mods from the community, BGS's NASA-punk RPG will be receiving the Shattered Space story expansion later this year, which could right many of the wrongs in Starfield's base game.
