Summary
- Starfield's May 2025 patch boosts performance on lower-end devices.
- Modders benefit from Creations improvements, including a new 2GB size limit.
- New features like Very Low display settings cater to players while bug fixes improve gameplay.
Starfield has released its latest patch for May 2025, providing a helpful quality-of-life improvement that should boost performance on lower-end devices and providing the modding community with a lot more tools to help with its efforts. Starfield's Creations feature has provided some extra longevity to the space exploration RPG, and Bethesda's latest move seems aimed at keeping the Creations community well-supplied.
The official Creations Store for Starfield launched in June 2024, nine months after the game's initial release on Xbox Series X|S and PC. While there was initial backlash to the high prices for mods listed in the online storefront, many players warmed to Creations with the addition of new hab modules, weapons skins, and locations adding to the game's customization and immersion.
After Oblivion, Starfield and The Elder Scrolls May Want Tighter Leashes
Oblivion Remastered is a reminder of how strong Bethesda's open-world design used to be, and it could teach some lessons to the studio's next games.
With recent reports that modders are losing interest in Starfield, this latest patch, released on May 22, provides the modding community with three attractive features that may draw them back to the game. Perhaps most importantly, Bethesda has increased the maximum size of Creations to 2GB, which lifts a lot of restraints for Creators with particularly hefty projects and allows for the possibility of some game-changing alterations to Starfield. In addition to this improvement, the May update also provides some new icons that Creators can use in building their mods, and the Creations Store has been updated to allow for the bundling of Creations, which could potentially give customers some extra purchasing power in the future. There are also a few bug fixes related to Creations, which fix crashes and loading errors.
In addition to the big improvements to Creations, Starfield is also catering to players on lower-end devices by offering a new Very Low display setting, which should help improve performance. The May update to Starfield was tested in beta on Steam earlier in the month, and other notes on performance state that the development teams have resolved an error that was causing frame rate drops when the scanner was used during long gaming sessions. Additionally, the update introduces some new resolutions for graphical presentation.
As usual, the patch notes also contain a log list of bug fixes spread across several categories. Several of these pertain to Starfield's Shattered Space DLC, and one of the most notable makes Va'ruun Outpost Modules available to players after they have entered the Unity. Players can also enjoy some upgrades to Starfield's land-based vehicles, as the patch will make it easier for players to exit partially obstructed vehicles and will allow them to deploy at locations other than spaceports and landing pads.
