A new listing for Starfield on Nintendo Switch 2 has appeared on an online retail site, adding some fire to the rumors about the outer space action-RPG's jump to Nintendo's new hybrid console. Nintendo has yet to officially confirm whether Starfield is planned for a Switch 2 release, but the idea of a possible port seems to have a lot of support from fans.
Bethesda released Starfield in September 2023, attempting to add a new open-world RPG that could rival its other two big RPG franchises, Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, while giving players an entire galaxy of more than 1,000 planets and moons to explore. The initial launch, exclusive to Xbox Series X|S and PC, didn't see it reach those heights, and while professional critics heaped a lot of praise on the game, players gave it a much more lukewarm reception. Starfield currently sits at Mixed reviews on Steam, with a 57 percent approval rating, and a slightly more positive Player Score of 70 on OpenCritic.
Rumor: Starfield Could Be Adding Highly Requested Ship Feature
The latest Starfield update contains some hints suggesting that Bethesda is working on a highly requested ship feature for its space-faring RPG.
Online Store Lists Starfield for Nintendo Switch 2
Despite not meeting expectations, many gamers have been patiently waiting for Starfield to make the jump to other platforms. Most recently, credible leaker NateTheHate made a mid-August post on Twitter claiming that Starfield will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in 2026. There has been no official public confirmation from Nintendo or Bethesda that this release is planned, but that hasn't stopped online retailer Instant Gaming from listing Starfield under its recently added games for Switch 2. The store page for Starfield follows the rumors, listing it for release on Switch 2 at an unspecified date in 2026, but it does not currently have an option for pre-order listed.
The Switch 2 is just the latest console to have rumors of a Starfield port emerge. Rumors have been swirling for most of the year about Starfield's potential debut on PlayStation 5, and recent developments have made a deal between Microsoft and Sony seem a little more likely. An early August release from MP1st, citing an unnamed source, reported that a PS5 port of Starfield was planned for release in Spring 2026.
While both sets of rumors are still awaiting confirmation from an official source, reports state that the PS5 release could be arriving alongside Starfield's rumored second expansion. So far, the only expansion DLC released for Starfield has been Shattered Space, which came out at the end of September 2024 and expanded on the backstory of the House Va'ruun faction. Like the base game, the first expansion faced heavy criticism, with players singling out its repetitive gameplay and poor storytelling, but lead designer Emil Pagliarulo has publicly stood by both the base game and Shattered Space, showing Bethesda's commitment to keeping Starfield growing.
