Summary

  • A new Starfield mod replaces elevator loading screens with working elevators, enhancing immersion.
  • Modding scene for Starfield is growing with the Creation Kit release, offering innovative mods.
  • Small mods like elevator changes can make a huge difference in overall game experience and immersion.

A new Starfield mod has replaced many of the game's elevator loading screens with real, working elevators, addressing one of gamers' biggest complaints since launch. Many felt that the loading screens in Starfield were a big factor in holding it back from feeling like a true next-gen title, but this modder has found the solution.

Slowly but surely, the Starfield modding scene is improving. As a Bethesda game, it was inevitable that modders would embrace Starfield, slowly molding it into a totally different game over time. However, the recent release of the Creation Kit has accelerated this, as it gives talented modders the tools they need to create in-depth Starfield mods. While the full benefits of the Creation Kit might not be seen for a while yet, there have already been some amazing mods released for the game. One recent Starfield mod added a polyamory romance option, finally giving players the option to enter into relationships with multiple characters at once.

"The Real Elevator For Starfield" was uploaded to Nexus Mods by user EdgiestSwing23, and it's very simple. It replaces 18 elevators across 15 Starfield locations, removing the load screens entirely. Now, the elevators will automatically be called when the player approaches, without the need to press any button at all. It then takes the player to the correct location in the elevator, resulting in a seamless experience that many expected when Starfield was released last year. It also serves as a useful framework for other modders to take advantage of, providing several elevator presets that can be used elsewhere.

Starfield Mod Removes Loading Screens From Some Elevators

On the surface, this feels like quite a small mod. However, the difference it makes to the game's overall immersion is massive. With a game like Starfield, immersion is often the end goal for modders. In the base game, Bethesda can't lean too much into this, as the game has to appeal to so many different types of players. In the modding scene, no such restriction exists. Near release, another Starfield mod improved immersion by removing the zoom-in effect during dialogue, showing that there are plenty of different ways to change the game in this regard.

With the Shattered Space DLC set for release later this year, there's plenty for Starfield fans to look forward to. Rumors of a second Starfield expansion leaked online a short time ago, so it seems as though Bethesda will be supporting the game for a while to come. After the game's mixed reception from fans, it's great to see that Bethesda is putting in the effort to win gamers over rather than just abandoning a title that clearly had a ton of love poured into its development.
