Red Mile is one of the most interesting and unique places in Starfield. Located on Porrima 3 in the Porrima star system, this small casino and mercenary outpost plays host to a twisted game in which spectators place bets on participants completing a challenge known as The Red Mile. Players can receive the activity "Go To The Red Mile" by overhearing random NPCs in New Atlantis discussing the famed location.

The Porrima star system is technically not controlled by any faction, so it can also serve as a good safe haven of neutral territory for Starfield players with high bounties among certain factions. Unlike The Den or The Key, Red Mile does not contain a wide variety of vendors or a Trade Authority outpost, since it is more of a location centered around this "sporting" activity, rather than a genuine settlement.

Upon landing at Red Mile, players will immediately notice the daunting red sign fronting the building. The area is often filled with heavily-armed mercenaries, but upon entering, the place reveals itself to be quite a luxurious hangout considering it is on a frozen planet. A small dispute in the entranceway nearly leads to a customer being shot, but the situation is resolved by the establishment's owner, Mei Devine.

While contents of the challenge itself are kept purposefully vague, Mei will try to get players to sign up, promising a lavish opening ceremony and a high reward for those who complete what lies beyond the large red door. Players must first convince Mei that they are of sound mind to enter the competition and that they have not been forced to do so by any third parties, but this should be quite easy to do since she makes a lot of money from bets on the event.

Starfield The Red Mile Pedestal Activate

Upon agreeing to enter, a small ceremony is held, and players must then proceed through the red door where they are confronted with the incredibly daunting sight of The Red Mile. This giant open crater has a tall structure at its center, and is littered with both debris and corpses from top to bottom. Players can approach the area in a number of ways, either making a break for the central landmark in an attempt to complete the challenge as quickly as possible, or taking things more slowly in order to dispatch enemies and make sure the area is safe before advancing.

The enemies players must deal with are called Red Mile Maulers, and there are seemingly hundreds of them in the area as they attack in packs. It will take some pretty strong weaponry to bring them down, and shooting nearby canisters and fuel tanks will certainly help too. Upon reaching the summit, players must activate the pedestal at the base of the structure in order to complete the challenge. Once this has been activated, the challenge almost begins itself again as players must then make their way back to the main facility, all the while defending against Maulers. It can be worth exploring this competition area since there are several crates and bodies scattered around the place which occasionally have valuable loot on them.

Upon returning to the main casino area, players can speak with Mei who will reward them with a few thousand credits and tell them that they are free to "Run" any time again in the future. Players will then be able to revisit and take part in The Red Mile challenge for the credits and XP rewards it can provide.

Starfield is available now for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
