With the release of Shattered Space — Bethesda Game Studios' open world space RPG Starfield's very first game expansion — players see themselves transported to the mysterious and secretive homeworld of House Va'ruun. Shattered Space is an aesthetically different and interesting look into a Starfield faction shrouded in darkness, with a space age belief system to match.

But, since the people of House Va'ruun are as distrusting as they are isolationist, players will need to convert to their religion and join House Va'ruun before being granted access to all the new content on Va'ruun'kai, the Va'ruun homeworld. After becoming Promised, players of Shattered Space will receive one of six unique Promised titles that characters on Va'ruun'kai will use to refer to the player. This choice isn't random but is instead influenced by the effigies chosen during the conversion process.
Each Effigy Choice & Promised Title Reward
There are four different effigies to choose from in Starfield's Shattered Space DLC for a total of six unique combinations of effigies. Although the effigy choice at first seems unimportant, the specific combination of effigies chosen results in a different Promised title upon completion of the conversion process. The four effigies are:
- Strength
- Perseverance
- Obedience
- Devotion
To complete the conversion process, players must place an effigy on two altars, and it's this choice that defines the Promised title for the player for the duration of their stay on Va'ruun'kai.
How To Earn The Vindicator Promised Title
The Vindicator Promised title is awarded to players who choose the Strength and Perseverance Effigies. The order of effigies doesn't matter.
How To Earn The Harbinger Promised Title
The Harbinger Promised title is awarded to players who pick the Strength and Devotion Effigies, and the order in which they're chosen is irrelevant.
How To Earn The Armiger Promised Title
Players who pick the Strength and Obedience Effigies will receive the Armiger Promised title for their troubles, and as with the other choices, the order they're chosen doesn't matter.
How To Earn The Diviner Promised Title
Perseverance and Devotion Effigies award the Diviner Promised title when chosen, and the order doesn't matter.
How To Earn The Adherent Promised Title
The Perseverance and Obedience Effigies reward the player with the Adherent Promised title after choosing them in any order.
How To Earn The Reverent Promised Title
The Reverent Promised title is given to players who choose the Devotion and Obedience Effigies in any order.
Which Promised Title Is The Best In Starfield's Shattered Space DLC?
The Promised titles are all equally good. They're just for flavor, giving players the opportunity to customize how they're addressed in the Shattered Space DLC. So, it's perfectly fine to just pick a favorite name, or not to care about it at all, since it doesn't matter mechanically. It doesn't affect the XP or Credits rewards for the quest, so it really is just a matter of which name you'd prefer to be called when out and about on Va'ruun'kai.
