Starfield: Shattered Space adds a lot of new items to find while on the home world of House Va'ruun, with one of them being Vortex Shards. Vortex Shards are a key item needed to craft the new various kinds of Vortex Grenades each grenade needs one Vortex Shard.

There are multiple kinds of Vortex Grenades that all do very different things and are very useful when dealing with the various threats in the DLC. Vortex Shards can be obtained naturally while you complete the main missions of the DLC, but they can also be farmed very early into the DLC; here's how to get them fast.

Starfield: Best Aid Items To Craft At The Pharmaceutical Lab

The Pharmaceutical Lab in Starfield lets players craft various aid items. Here are the best to start off with.

Where To Get Vortex Shards In Starfield: Shattered Space

A single Vortex Shard is dropped by every Vortex Phantom and Vortex Horror. Vortex Phantoms are a fairly common enemy found throughout the DLC and will be found right when you start the DLC and board The Oracle. Only one Vortex Shard is dropped from each Vortex Phantom or Horror, so it's important to stop and search every one even if you are just grabbing the Vortex Shard.

If you want to find Vortex Shards more freely and easily, they can be found all around the central structure of Va'ruun'kai. The area all around the central structure can be explored as soon as you are given the ability to free roam in the city. There is a large pit around the central structure due to the explosion that led to the events of the DLC, and players can jump down into this pit when coming from any direction.

From the town square of Dazra, look to the right side of the main structure to find a path leading down into the pit. Vortex Phantoms will spawn randomly throughout the pit and have various forms such as Hopeless variants which are stronger than the basic Vortex Phantoms. Vortex Phantoms can teleport around and are hard to track in combat, so utilize the mini-map to keep track of where these enemies are appearing and shooting from.

All variants of Vortex Phantoms only drop one Vortex Shard.

Where To Get Vortex Cysts In Starfield: Shattered Space

The Player Facing A Vortex Horror

Vortex Cysts are dropped from Vortex Horrors, another new enemy type added in the Shattered Space DLC. These creatures will also spawn along the paths or in dungeons surrounding the main storyline, but can also sometimes be found randomly throughout the planet. To find Vortex Horrors commonly, players should traverse Anomalous Cave, which is tied to the main quest The Other Side. Like Vortex Phantoms, Vortex Horrors will only drop on Vortex Cyst a piece, along with Vortex Shards. There are multiple types of Vortex Cysts, and they all drop randomly from any kind of Vortex Horror, so kill and loot them all.
