A new Starfield update is now available for all players, bringing some improvements and bug fixes to the space exploration title. Bethesda has continued to support Starfield since its launch in late 2023, and while many players remain frustrated by the scarcity of fresh content in the RPG, there is still hope in the community that the rumored next expansion will be a turning point for the troubled game.

Bethesda Teases 'Exciting Things' on the Way for Starfield

While Starfield has been applauded for its setting and soundtrack, its story and exploration have failed to hit the mark with many players. The game's first expansion, Shattered Space, was released just over a year after the title launched and failed to meet expectations, with players left frustrated by rampant bugs and a lack of notable new weapons or gadgets. While the next DLC has not yet been confirmed by the studio, rumors have continued to swirl regarding its existence, with a recent leak indicating that the second Starfield expansion has been pushed out of 2025. This is an unfortunate sign, as player engagement has sunk on Steam, hovering at around 4,500 concurrent players on average.

As players await new story content, Bethesda has officially released a small new update for the space RPG, bringing improvements to the Creation menu along with several much-needed fixes. While this Starfield update was launched in beta in July, it is now available for all players, with a major fix addressing an issue that could potentially cause Extreme Temperature gear to appear incorrectly. Sorting in the Missions Menu has also been improved, and some general crash and stability fixes have been implemented.

In June, players were left disappointed by the lack of Starfield during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, with many wondering if the developers had moved on to Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls 6. While many had tempered their expectations, the community still found it strange that the RPG didn't make even a small appearance during the event. The Creation Club has continued to see updates, but new content for the title seems out of reach.

Only days ago, a new report indicated that Starfield's rumored PS5 port would be released in Spring 2026, alongside the game's second expansion and additional "quality-of-life updates." However, the source stated that this announcement wouldn't be made during this month's Gamescom event, nor will the PS5 port be shadow dropped. A release on Sony's platform may help to bolster Starfield's dwindling player count, though Bethesda has not yet confirmed its existence.
