StarRupture is such a complex survival-based building game that players might get lost trying to set up their first base and operating it to the maximum capacity. Meanwhile, players will also need to explore a huge open-world map (Arcadia-7), which is also affected by a planet-wide phenomenon that can wipe out every speck of life on the surface every few cycles.

If that wasn't enough, the local fauna isn't particularly happy about the presence of the humans gathering resources near their nests, and will defend their territory and attack the players' bases frequently. So, if readers are feeling a little bit lost and don't know where to start in StarRupture, here's a comprehensive beginner's guide, where they can learn the basics about characters, technologies, base building, and corporations (factions).

All Characters Have The Same Skills, What Changes Is How You Decide To Play

starrupture-all-characters-guide

Each of the Characters in StarRupture is theoretically specialized in some kind of activity. That is according to your background, but in terms of gameplay, every character is the same. This might be confusing for players, but it has a clear purpose: To divide roles in cooperative play. Star Rupture is a Craft-Base-building-Survival, so there's a lot of things to do. So if players want to discover new technologies, the Scientist is their best choice. On the other hand, if they would rather enjoy fighting, they should pick the Soldier. The Medic, logically, specializes in healing others (and herself), while the Engineer is the builder of the party.

This will help a party of four players define the roles and enhance cooperation. Plus, each character has their own personality and hilarious voiceovers that they should discover while they play, because they are awesome. Still, all characters can do pretty much anythin g. So, choose freely when going solo, since it doesn't alter the gameplay too much. Still, no matter the decision players make, in the end, they will have to do everything from crafting to building on their own. Of course, StarRupture is a coop open-world game, so it's better to play it with friends.

Pay Attention To The Rupture Cycles

The Rupture is the core mechanic in Star Rupture, an event that hits Arcadia-7 every once in a while (indicated by the meter on the top of hud), which is basically a planet-wide Wipe that destroys everything and then starts a cycle of rapid growth and rebirth. Resource nodes will scramble and disappear, while others will replace them, and so, players must gather as many mats as possible before the cataclismic even starts.

Ruptures will immediately kill players if they are outside of shelter (base or special refuges), so they must keep this in mind and avoid exploring when a Rupture is coming. Before the Rupture starts, an alert will pop up and warn players of the upcoming disaster, so run quickly to the base to take shelter before it's too late. An interesting proposal for an open-world survival game, but players should be careful not to underestimate the dangers of the Rupture.

Unlock Utility Tech First, Combat Later

SR-Screen-04

One of the key technologies to unlock first in StarRupture is the Map ( reach Level 2 with Moon Energy). Without a map, there's no point on exploring Arcadia-7, as it will be nearly impossible to spot the best resource nodes and come back later after the ruptures happen. Being a gatherer/builder is more or less the core thing in StarRupture, but there's also base defense and combat while exploring.

So, priority number one should be unlocking utility technologies that might help players with their base building, defenses, and survivability. Their weapon of choice during most of the early game will be a standard pistol with cheap ammo. Don't worry, more weapons are right around the corner and can be unlocked later.

Base Location Is Everything

Starrupture-Screen02-1920x1080

Most of the players will start to immediately build their base just outside the landing pod, and that's alright, since it's a decent starting area with access to many of the basic resources. The problem is that when the game progresses, they will need other resources that are scarce in the starting area.

Move to the east from the starting location, passing the crater and sulphur deposits. Keep going east until finding a small lake, and there's actually an even better place to settle down with a base just on the north side of this lake. With access to many basic and advanced resources and little to no enemy presence, this is the ideal location for starting your adventure in StarRupture.

Climb To A Vantage Point to Build With Ease

Height will greatly alter the perspective while placing buildings in StarRupture, giving players a clearer view of the terrain where they want to place structures. Later in the game, players can even unlock a building Drone that will facilitate this process, but until then, the rule of thumb is to climb on a hill or rocky structure to start building.

This will also reveal more of the buildable area and possible obstacles on the terrain that might obstruct the expansion of the base in the future. On that note, it is also recommended to build over a flat surface instead of a hill or rocky area, even if they're relatively far from resource nodes. It matters not, since every Resource Gathering Structure can be connected with Rails to deliver resources to processing units and Orbital Launchers.

Commissions and Corporations

SR-Screen-02

Corporations are like Factions in StarRupture, and each and every of them requires a certain number of resources to level up, unlocking new technologies in the process. The way to progress in this game is to construct an Orbital Cargo Launcher and set commissions (sending packages of resources) to these corporations in exchange for reputation gains, which in turn will level up the relationship with said corporation from 1 (base level) to 5 (maximum).

There are currently six corporations in StarRupture, and each of them unlocks a certain technology tree. Claywood Corporation or Training Corporation will be the first players to unlock, and five more are available after completing the Tutorial. Here's a table with every corporation, leveling requirements, and Technology unlocks:
