As soon as you land on Arcadia-7 in StarRupture, you'll be put to work on behalf of the corporations. Your job is to provide various resources and data that can be found or harvested from the planet and send them to these corporations. As you progress through the tasks, the requests will require you to further and further refine the core ores you extract from the planet. Alas, you won't get very far if your structures don't have a power source, but the game doesn't explain this too well. Here's how to connect power in StarRupture.

Connecting Structures to Power in StarRupture
To connect a structure to a power source, they must be connected by either touching one another, or by using other platforms or rails to pass on the power. For example, you could place a Solar Generator directly next to an ore extractor and this will provide it with the power it needs to operate. This can be seen in the screenshot below.
Alternatively, if a structure is in a difficult place to build around, but it is connected by a rail to another structure, these can be used to pass on the power source. For example, if you have an Orbital Cargo Launcher placed directly next to two Solar Generators and these are providing power, you can then use a rail to connect the Orbital Cargo Launcher to an Ore Extractor that doesn't already have a power source to provide power to it from the Solar Generators by the Orbital Cargo Launcher.
There is another alternative, and this involves using platforms that can be built from the 'Module Components' tab on the 'Build' menus sidebar. As power transfers through platforms, you can place a platform between a structure and a power source to provide power to the structure.
It's worth noting that each power source has a limited energy output. For example, a Solar Generator can only output 10 power. An Orbital Cargo Launcher requires 5 to function, as does a smelter. As such, one Solar Generator can power these two by rail, but you'd need to place another Solar Generator down if you also wanted to power a connected Ore Extractor if this didn't already have a power source. This can be particularly useful if you have an extractor placed on a calcium ore deposit that doesn't have much room to build around it.
You can check the power needed for any structure by walking over to it, pressing E, and selecting the 'i' icon on the left side of the menu.
Remember, you can always delete buildings and rails in StarRupture if you need to rethink the layout of your base and structures as your base continues to expand.
