Developed by Morefun Studios, Arena Breakout: Infinite is the latest rising star among first-person shooters on Steam, reaching over 30,000 concurrent players shortly after its full launch. The FPS genre has long been one of the most popular on Steam, with titles like Counter-Strike 2 and Delta Force consistently topping the charts. Now, Arena Breakout: Infinite now seems to be the newest addition to that list of top contenders on the platform.

For a long time, concurrent player count has been a key metric for measuring a game's success. For instance, when Hollow Knight: Silksong reached nearly 600,000 concurrent players on Steam, it was widely seen as a major success for developer Team Cherry. Now, a new game on Steam appears to be on track to become one of the most-played new releases on Valve's platform, thanks to its promising concurrent player stats.

Arena Breakout: Infinite Quickly Surpasses 35,000 Concurrent Players

Morefun Studios' tactical extraction shooter launched as a free-to-play title on September 15 after several months of closed beta testing and early access. Shortly after its release, Arena Breakout: Infinite drew about 28,600 concurrent players, which was seen by many as an impressive feat. According to SteamDB charts, the game has since grown its player base, with recent data showing over 35,000 concurrent players. Thanks to this surge in popularity, Arena Breakout: Infinite has climbed into the top 50 most-played games on Steam, surpassing many other free FPS titles like Destiny 2.

Some may attribute developer Morefun Studios' success to Arena Breakout: Infinite being free to play. However, many free games have failed to achieve the same level of success. A clear example is XDefiant, which launched as a free-to-play FPS but was eventually shut down by Ubisoft after struggling to maintain its player base. While it may be too early to say if Arena Breakout: Infinite can sustain its momentum on Steam, the game has already proven to be a success for the developer, currently holding a "Very Positive" average review score from nearly 4,000 reviewers.

Aiming down scope in Arena Breakout Infinite

In the coming days, it will be interesting to see if Arena Breakout: Infinite can climb higher on the charts and challenge some of the biggest names in the FPS genre. The competition is tough, though. New releases like Borderlands 4 are currently very popular. There are also long-standing titles like Rainbow Six Siege that have remained dominant on the charts for years.
