Update 9/4: Steam services have been restored.

Original story follows.

Steam has gone down on Thursday, September 4. Steam is the world's most popular digital gaming platform on PC. By and large, Steam is reliable and rarely ever goes down. The vast majority of the time, Steam users can count on the platform working exactly as it should, but there appears to be a hiccup today that's making it impossible for users to purchase any games.

As of the morning of Thursday, September 4, Steam is down for everyone, specifically the ability to buy games from the store. Steam going down coincided with Hollow Knight: Silksong's official release time, and so the highly-anticipated Metroidvania from Team Cherry appears to be the culprit. Hollow Knight: Silksong has been building hype for six years and is quite easily one of the most highly-anticipated games of all time, and so it's no surprise that its release has seen an influx of people flock to Steam and seemingly crash the platform. According to Down Detector, thousands of people have already reported problems with Steam.

Steam is Down Right Now

But it's not just Silksong's Steam page that's impacted by Steam's current problems. Clicking on any game brings up an error page, meaning that Steam users can't buy anything right now, not just Silksong. Hopefully the issues with Steam are ironed out sooner rather than later so the fans that have been waiting ages for Silksong can buy it ASAP, and Steam users wanting to purchase other products can do so as well.

We will update this page as soon as Steam services have been fully restored.
