Steam users have just a few days to check out a demo of an upcoming Metroidvania, This Is Fine: Maximum Cope, based on the iconic 'This Is Fine' meme by cartoonist KC Green. This Is Fine: Maximum Cope is part of the ongoing Steam Next Fest game demo event, and will launch on PC and consoles in March 2026.
As one of the most iconic memes of the 2010s, 'This Is Fine' first appeared on KC Green's webcomic Gunshow in 2013. The comic depicts a dog in a hat, named Question Hound, drinking coffee as he utters the famous line. As the comic goes on, everything around Question Hound burns in a fiery blaze. The comic has since been used on social media as an ironic metaphor for when things are not fine, reaching prominence in 2014 after the first two frames of the now-famous comic made the rounds on Reddit. Although Gunshow was retired in 2014, the notoriety of 'This Is Fine' has allowed Green to pursue other projects.

This Is Fine: Maximum Cope Demo Now Available Until October 22
Even though there are Steam games that have become memes, a new title based on one of the Internet's top memes now has a demo for players to try out. This Is Fine: Maximum Cope is a 2D Metroidvania based on Green's handiwork, with a demo now available on Steam until October 22. While the demo's duration was originally slated to line up with Steam Next Fest, This is Fine: Maximum Cope was hit with a two-day delay. Developer Numskull Games stated that the demo window will be extended to last after Steam Next Fest concludes on October 20, so players will have a little extra time with it. This is Fine: Maximum Cope will allow players to control Question Hound through five worlds based on emotions like Failure, Fear, and Regret.
Throughout This is Fine: Maximum Cope, players can collect coffee beans and use them to buy perks that bolster Question Hound's abilities, including one that attracts coffee beans from a distance. Throughout each world, the iconic coffee table and burning home from Green's comic will appear. These tables are the game's rest points, which will give players a chance to save their progress and backtrack to previous points. Ergo, exploration in this upcoming Metroidvania game will be crucial.
This Is Fine: Maximum Cope has a March 2026 release window on Steam and all current consoles, though an exact release date remains elusive at the time of writing. How fans of Green's work will react to This Is Fine: Maximum Cope remains to be seen.
