Released two and a half months apart, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are among the highest-rated RPGs of the 2020s. Both hold a "Mighty" rating on OpenCritic, with Square Enix's remake boasting an average score of 85 and a 93% reviewer recommendation rate. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 surpasses even those metrics, having managed to hit an 89 average score and a near-perfect recommendation rate of 96%.
Upcoming Role-Playing Games People Are Excited For
While plenty of RPGs have been announced for 2026 and beyond, these upcoming role-playing games are especially exciting.
Both games have been treated to substantial Steam discounts that saw them drop to their lowest-ever prices on Valve's storefront in late July 2025. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is currently available at 30% off, or $41.99. That's $6 lower than its prior best price, which was available between late June and early July. The Gold Edition of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 received an even larger price cut of 35%, and is thus currently retailing for $51.99, offering the equivalent of $28 worth of savings.

Meanwhile, Square Enix discounted the critically acclaimed Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake by 35%. The modernized version of the classic JRPG can hence currently be picked up for $38.99. That's $21 lower than its regular price and $6 cheaper than its prior best price, which it had reached during the June 2025 Steam Summer Sale.
The Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake deal is live until August 6, while the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 sale is scheduled to wrap up five days earlier. Apart from the game itself, Warhorse has also slashed the prices of all the KCD2 DLC packs, with discounts ranging from 15% to 40%. The Gold Edition of the open-world RPG set in medieval Bohemia includes all of its post-launch content. Two more add-ons from the expansion pass are still pending release, including Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Legacy of the Forge DLC, which is targeting a September 2025 launch. Once it's out, Warhorse will focus on finishing Mysteria Ecclesiae, a questline about combating a deadly illness that's currently planned for a Q4 2025 debut.
While the ongoing deals mark the new best prices for both games, Steam users with a lot on their plate right now shouldn't feel pressured to keep adding to their backlogs. Based on recent trends, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are likely to see at least several more sales before the end of 2025, some of which might deliver even deeper discounts.
