Granite is a bedrock material in SteamWorld Build. It prevents exploration as standard Dig Tools won’t break it. Players first come across Granite blocks while exploring Marshy Ruins, the second cavern underneath the central city. Since dealing with Granite deposits is crucial to advancing the campaign and growing the city, this guide will provide detailed instructions on breaking them. Here’s how to break Granite in SteamWorld Build with basic tools.
SteamWorld Build: Beginner Tips & Tricks
Establishing a steam-powered city from the ground is complicated, but these beginner tips equip SteamWorld Build players with the necessary knowledge.
How to Mine Granite
To get Granite, you must build Carbide Drills. First, achieve Milestone 12 and unlock Aristobots. Next, establish a Carburizing Plant near the city. Once the facility is up and running, use the standard Dig Tool on Granite to break it.
Mining Granite is no different than other Materials. Select the Dig Tool, hover over a deposit, and click the block. As long as the Carbide Drill status is positive—there is enough in your inventory—a miner will spawn and break the Granite.
Here’s the step-by-step process:
- Increase Milestone Level to 12.
- Build a Carburizing Plant. (Find it in the Aristobots builds menu.)
- Gather Oil and Ironium.
- Produce Carbide Drills.
- Use the Drills on Granite deposits.
The Cost of Mining Granite
Granite extraction in SteamWorld Build is powered by Carburizing Plants, which cost 18,000 Cash each. However, you also need Oil, Ironium, Tools, Boards, Sheet Metal, Plastic, and Aristobots to keep these facilities up and running.
To maximize the Granite production, you should have at least three Carburizing Plants. This requires 105 Aristobots, which are generated by satisfying the needs of Engineers.
Total cost of Carbide Drill production per unit:
- $18,000
- 14 Tools
- 12 Boards
- 16 Sheet Metal
- 15 Plastic
- 1 Oil
- 1 Ironium
- $23 (Upkeep fee)
- 35 Aristobots
The Carburizing Plant produces one Granite-breaking Drill per minute. However, each facility will employ 35 Aristobots during the production.
Where to Find Granite Deposits
The primary source of Granite is located in the Marshy Ruins. To get there, you will need to fix the elevator in the Mineshaft and navigate the Dusty Caverns. (The repair costs 25 Sheet Metal, 40 Boards, and 10 Aristobots.)
Note that Granite is not a primary material in the game and is more of a roadblock. So, you should stop Carbide Drill production when the digging and exploration are done. This would save you Oil and Ironium, which are crucial ingredients for other facilities.
