Stellar Blade doesn't necessarily reinvent the wheel when it comes to its story. For the most part, it follows the very common savior trope amid familiar Sci-Fi themes and plot points. In fact, almost anyone who has seen a decent number of Sci-Fi films should be able to recognize and even predict the flow of Stellar Blade's story. That being said, its story is still worth witnessing unfold, especially as each major chapter comes to a close and everything that EVE once knew to be true begins crumbling to pieces.
At the heart of Stellar Blade's story is the EVE Protocol — EVE's namesake and the reason she is on Earth in the first place. It should take players the entire game to grasp the full extent of the EVE Protocol, as the truth behind it gradually unravels throughout Stellar Blade's story. Even so, there are bits and pieces of information scattered throughout Stellar Blade's world that provide deeper insight into the EVE Protocol, what it truly means for Earth, and how Earth's inhabitants view the EVE Protocol and the driving force behind it.
Stellar Blade's EVE Protocol Explained
What the EVE Protocol Is Initially Believed to Be
Stellar Blade's EVE Protocol is essentially a master plan to save Earth from the monsters that dominate it. Stellar Blade's story begins on the foundations of a version of Earth that has been taken over by the monstrous Naytiba antagonists, and humankind has evacuated to colonies in space. This is precisely why the EVE Protocol has been initiated, and it is Mother Sphere who is behind it all.
Mother Sphere, whom many believe to be a goddess, has sent what Earth's inhabitants commonly refer to as "Angels" to exterminate every last Naytiba and reclaim possession of the Earth. EVE, Stellar Blade's protagonist, is one of the Angels, a supposed superhuman warrior who can do the work of many. Unfortunately, despite the good that the EVE Protocol could potentially do for the planet, it all turns out to be something entirely different in the end.
What the EVE Protocol Truly Is
Stellar Blade's world is shrouded in conspiracy theories from believers and non-believers alike, and with good reason. While some believe in Mother Sphere and the EVE Protocol, others doubt it. For example, some skeptics believe Mother Sphere's plan to rid the planet of Naytibas is a lie and a ruse, as she hasn't sent enough Angels to do the job. Other believers hold the Angels in high regard as saviors who have come to free them from the corrupted world and return them to the Colony.
As the story unfolds, it is revealed that Mother Sphere is not who anyone has known her to be, which simultaneously complicates the mission of the EVE Protocol.
As players witness Raven's third monologue after completing Abyss Levoire in Stellar Blade, it is revealed that Mother Sphere had waged a war against humankind with the help of the Andro-Eidos, man-created androids. Despite their efforts to defeat Mother Sphere and her army, they were driven underground and into hiding. However, to survive, they had to force themselves to evolve, which is why each Levoire in Stellar Blade appears to be an underground research facility. This forced evolution eventually resulted in the Naytibas, who then defeated the Andro-Eidos and attempted an assault on Mother Sphere, but ultimately failed.
As it turns out, EVE is an Andro-Eidos, and the EVE Protocol is truly nothing more than Mother Sphere's attempt to wipe humanity off the face of Earth. For the unassuming EVE, this was devastating news, as she had always believed she was sent to Earth to defeat the Naytibas and save humanity. Fortunately, players are given a choice at the end of Stellar Blade to let EVE be the Angel everyone claims she is.
