Summary

  • Stellar Blade is getting a sequel as early as 2026.
  • The original game may also be coming to Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Stellar Blade will be released for PC on June 11.

The developer of Stellar Blade recently confirmed that the popular third-person action game will get a sequel. Released by Shift Up for the PlayStation 5 in 2024, Stellar Blade was a hugely successful title, prompting the studio to quietly announce that a sequel is in the works.

It’s no secret that Stellar Blade was a huge hit. The game sold over a million units in its first two months despite only being available on the PS5 at launch, quickly becoming Shift Up’s biggest hit. After launch, Shift Up had a successful Initial Public Offering, during which the company raised around $320 million from investors.

One Year Later, Stellar Blade is a Modern Success Story

Stellar Blade overcame early obstacles to achieve high levels of praise and success, and its outlook is promising one year on from its launch.

Now, Shift Up has quietly revealed that the popular action game will get a sequel, which could be out in 2026. According to a company presentation (via Insider Gaming), the studio already has several projects in the works. Among them, a “platform expansion” and a sequel to Stellar Blade are scheduled for sometime before 2027, as well as the previously confirmed action title codenamed “Project Witches.” This indicates that Stellar Blade 2 could appear between now and 2026. Plans could change, but this at least indicates that a proper sequel to the title is currently in development and seems to be progressing smoothly enough for the release to seem possible in the near future.

Unfortunately, it’s unknown what the “platform expansion” for Stellar Blade will entail, but it’s possible to speculate that it could mean a release for Xbox Series X/S or Nintendo Switch 2. However, an Xbox release remains uncertain, considering the game was published by Sony. Recently, Stellar Blade saw some issues on PC ahead of its launch on the platform, with the title suddenly becoming unavailable in multiple countries.

Stellar Blade Complete Edition will launch on June 11, coinciding with the title's PC release. This new edition of the game will have more outfits and a new boss fight, as well as voiceover options for Japanese and simplified Chinese. Fortunately, the update will be entirely free for anyone who has already purchased the game.

It’s not hard to see why Shift Up is planning to launch a sequel to Stellar Blade, considering how successful the title has been. Studio founder Kim Hyung-tae recently found more success after the release of Stellar Blade, appearing as one of the 50 richest people in South Korea with a net worth of around $725 million. Hopefully, the sequel will indeed come out soon and be just as well-received as the original title.
