- The impressive cast lineup hints at a promising adaptation of the iconic horror story.
Mike Flanagan's next Stephen King adaptation, Carrie, has been steadily growing a big, star-studded cast over the last few months and its latest member reveal will be familiar to those who can't get enough of the Star Trek universe. Flanagan is a huge King fan, previously adapting Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep, a sequel to Stanley Kubrick's 1980 movie, The Shining. Naturally, to follow on from his love of King's writing, Flanagan's next film is also based on his work, as he aims to breathe new life into his 1974 movie, which starred Sissy Spacek and directed by Brian De Palma.
Flanagan's Carrie TV show will tell the story of a tortured high school student named Carrie White who discovers she has telekinetic powers. Upon release, the supernatural horror received a lot of love from critics due to its brilliant performances, as well as that horrific yet iconic moment where Carrie gets covered in pig's blood at her prom, with many calling it one of the best Stephen King adaptations. Even though another Carrie adaptation was crafted in 2013, which starred Chloë Grace Moretz as the lead and Julianne Moore as the mother, it unfortunately fell flat among King's audience, largely due to its lack of originality and failure to capture the emotional depth of the source material, scoring a disappointing rating of 51% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Mandalorian’s Katee Sackhoff Joins Mike Flanagan’s Carrie Adaptation
As reported by Deadline, Katee Sackhoff has been cast in the Carrie television series in the works at Amazon MGM Studios. Sackhoff, who is known for her roles as Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian, Lieutenant Kara "Starbuck" Thrace in Battlestar Galactica and Victoria "Vic" Moretti in Longmire, will join the ever-growing list of talented actors in Flanagan's adaptation. As yet, who Sackhoff will be playing the character of isn't known, but this isn't the first time The Mandalorian star and Flanagan have teamed up, as they previously united for his 2013 supernatural psychological horror film, Oculus.
Along with Sackhoff, other cast members who will be joining the Carrie adaptation are Flanagan's wife and star of Midnight Mass and The Haunting of Hill House, Kate Siegel, as well as Michael Trucco and Rahul Kohli. New cast members to Flanagan's project also include Heather Graham, Tim Bagley, Tahmoh Penikett, Mapuana Makia, Rowan Danielle, Naika Toussaint, Delainey Hayles, and Cassandra Naud. This is quite the line-up already and also really exciting as it showcases what a huge range of acting talent the adaptation will host, seemingly making way for plenty of compelling, and possibly terrifying, storylines.
Summer Howell, known for her roles in Cult of Chucky and Time Cut, will take on the role of Carrie in the TV series adaptation. She is joined by Scream and Five Nights at Freddy's star Matthew Lillard, and Prey and Legion actress Amber Midthunder. At the end of last year, horror fans were excited to hear that Flanagan's Carrie TV series is a lot further along than expected. Talking to fans on BlueSky, the director revealed that they were already 6 weeks into the writers' room, which meant that development for the eight-episode Amazon series was traveling at full speed.
Currently, Carrie does not yet have a premiere window, but when it does release, it will stream exclusively on Prime Video.
