Stranger Things has officially concluded after giving us eight episodes. The two-hour-long finale brought an end to the Upside Down and the story of Hawkins; however, some fans think that Stranger Things doesn't end with Episode 8 of the fifth season.

Apparently, some fans speculate that there's a secret Episode 9 of Stranger Things that Netflix plans on releasing sometime today. But the question is, if there is indeed an episode 9, what will it have to offer since we've already seen a fitting end to the story? Well, that's where the Conformity Gate theory enters the picture. Now, what is this new theory that fans have been discussing? Well, here's all you need to know about it.

Stranger Things Fans Speculate That Season 5 Will Get One More Episode

Fans Think An Episode 9 Will Release Sometime On January 7

Stranger Things has been with us for many years, and sure, it's hard to say goodbye to a show that we've loved so much. So, it's obvious that fans want the story to continue through a spin-off. In fact, a Stranger Things spin-off story might actually happen. However, the rumor of a secret Episode 9 of Season 5 caught everyone by surprise.

There have been multiple posts online, especially on X, talking about a ninth episode. And sure, the idea of an extra episode sounds exciting, but it's important to note that most of these fan posts are fake. If Netflix is planning to drop another episode, there should have been at least some hits from official sources. But at this point, Netflix hasn't confirmed the rumor of Episode 9 in any way. In fact, the official Instagram account of Stranger Things changed its bio to "All Episodes of Stranger Things are now playing." It's basically their way of saying, "Hey, don't believe the rumors online; there's no Episode 9."

But of course, fans are still convinced that an extra episode will be released sometime on January 7. What's more is that some fans are backing up the rumor with the Conformity Gate theory.

Fans Think The Stranger Things Conformity Gate Theory Might Be Real

It's Highly Unlikely, Though

In the eighth episode, we witnessed the ultimate battle between the Hawkins gang and Vecna. Our heroes not only defeated Henry Creel, but they also put an end to the Mind Flayer. But that wasn't the end of it, as there was one more enemy to fight. That's right, we are talking about Dr. Kay. Eleven knew that Dr. Kay would use Mike and the rest of her friends to get to her. So, she follows Kali's advice and stays back in the Upside Down. The Upside Down gets destroyed, and Eleven dies with it. However, in the final sequence, Mike comes up with the theory that Eleven actually escapes the Upside Dow n, and Kali used her powers to show an illusion of Eleven to everyone. Mike thinks that Eleven has probably found a new home, far away from Hawkins.

Seems like a fitting end to the story, right? Well, the Conformity Gate Theory says otherwise. According to the theory, everything we saw in the final episode was nothing but an illusion created by Vecna. The theory states that the gang of Hawkins is under Vecna's control, and he is making everyone experience this false reality so they don't fight back. This all sounds almost impossible, but believe it or not, the theory is actually backed by some evidence. Apparently, some fans have found some clues in the final episode supporting the theory. For instance, when Robin is in her studio in the final scene, the cassettes placed behind her spell out a Morse code, which says "U did not stop me." On top of that, some fans think that during the graduation scene, every seated student was using Henry's posture.

Of course, some of these observations might be correct, but honestly, that doesn't mean the Conformity Gate Theory is real. If you really think about it, Episode 8 delivered a very strong conclusion to the series. So, it's highly unlikely that the creators would throw all of that just out the window to surprise fans with one more episode.
