Summary

  • Duffer Brothers confirm Stranger Things season 5 to release in 2025.
  • Production is ahead of schedule with focus on visual effects.
  • Fans relieved final season won't be delayed past 2025.

Fans of Stranger Things have been patiently waiting since July 2022 to see Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and the others back together in the Netflix hit show's fifth and final season. Now the Duffer Brothers have confirmed that Stranger Things season 5 will arrive on Netflix in 2025.

Variety reported that Matt and Ross Duffer received the Variety Showrunners Award at SCAD TVfest and explained that they are following their post-production schedule. This is a great update to hear, especially since fans have been curious about how much longer they have to wait to see what happens to these smart, compelling, and kind-hearted characters. There have also been questions about how long each episode is going to be, and even though Finn Wolfhard said the long episodes are a good thing, viewers are still uncertain about the runtime.

After wrapping Stranger Things Season 5, Sadie Sink reveals some of the cool props she bagged from the filming set.

Ross said:

“We’re focused on visual effects sequences right now, which started back in January. It’s going well. We’re actually ahead of schedule, which is rare for us.”

While Matt didn't confirm if Stranger Things season 5 is going to be divided into two parts, he did reassure fans that it will come out in 2025. He said:

“I will say that it is coming this year. We’re definitely on target.”

This is a huge relief for fans who worried that Stranger Things season 5 would be delayed and come out in 2026. Matt Duffer told Variety in January 2025 , "I just know it was very important for us and Netflix that we get it out this year. But even that is quite the push. Even season 4, we cut that so tight." But now, while there is no exact release date for Stranger Things season 5, fans at least can rest assured that it will be released sometime this year .

Since fans have been waiting for almost three years to see the final season of this beloved series, viewers would have been more than a little disappointed if it was pushed even further back. Some would argue that even a three-year wait is too long, but there are a few reasons why it has been so long since the Stranger Things season 4 finale began streaming on Netflix, including the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike.

While the Duffer Brothers are of course always asked about what's going to happen in the Stranger Things series finale, they can't give any story details or even mention much about the cast members. However, it's great news that they were able to share when fans can expect to see the end of Eleven and The Party's gripping and epic story.
