The popular cat-themed adventure game Stray is finally making its way to the Nintendo Switch on November 19. The Switch version of Stray does not seem to include any extra features or content compared to the original release, and information about a potential physical version is still unavailable.
Released in July 2022, Stray is the debut title from indie developer BlueTwelve Studio in which players control a cat in a dystopian, cyberpunk city as they journey to reunite with their friends after being separated from them. Along the way, players encounter mysterious enemies and various platforming sections and puzzles, all of which are solved using the unique skills and reflexes that come with being a cat.
Stray On Switch Is a Double-Edged Sword
In some ways, Stray is the perfect Nintendo Switch game, but it could also be a tricky marriage between software and hardware.
Now, over two years later, publisher Annapurna Interactive has released a trailer for the Nintendo Switch version of Stray, showing off the game's unique mechanics alongside its many accolades from various publications. In the trailer, fans can get a good look at the game's futuristic, robot-filled world and some of the main character's lifelike movements courtesy of the real-life felines that played the main character in Stray. The trailer confirms Stray's November 19 release date.
Stray's Nintendo Switch Port Finally Receives a Release Date
- November 19
Over a year after its initial launch in 2022, Stray also received a port for the Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, followed by a macOS version later that same year, making the Switch the last current platform for which the game had yet to release. It initially launched as a PlayStation console exclusive, only being available on the PS4, PS5, and PC via Steam for a while before it received any further ports.
While Stray is the first and only game from developer BlueTwelve Studio, publisher Annapurna Interactive has released some fairly high-profile indie games in the past. The company is responsible for the cult favorite roguelike Outer Wilds as well as the critically-acclaimed What Remains of Edith Finch, both of which received massive praise upon release.
For those looking to experience the story in another medium, Stray is also slated to receive an animated film adaptation from Annapurna Animation in the near future. There is currently no information about how far along the project is or when it might see a release date, but fortunately for fans, the game will now be available across all current platforms to check out in the meantime.

Lost, alone and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten city.
Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set amidst the detailed, neon-lit alleys of a decaying cybercity and the murky environments of its seedy underbelly. Roam surroundings high and low, defend against unforeseen threats and solve the mysteries of this unwelcoming place inhabited by curious droids and dangerous creatures.
See the world through the eyes of a cat and interact with the environment in playful ways. Be stealthy, nimble, silly, and sometimes as annoying as possible with the strange inhabitants of this mysterious world.
Along the way, the cat befriends a small flying drone, known only as B-12. With the help of this newfound companion, the duo must find a way out.
Stray is developed by BlueTwelve Studio, a small team from the south of France mostly made up of cats and a handful of humans.
