One of the most popular characters introduced in Street Fighter 5, the laid-back and effortlessly cool Rashid, is finally coming to Street Fighter 6 as the very first DLC character. He's bringing with him a few new moves, costumes, and character quirks that make him a little different from his previous iteration.
Despite having only been a Street Fighter character for a few years, Rashid plays an important role in the story leading up to Street Fighter 6, and has a few relationships with key characters that expand the lore. He also has a unique fighting style, using a combination of quick movements and whirlwind powers to fling himself across the screen at lighting speeds. This time around, Capcom have decided to tweak a few features to make this goofy but well-intentioned combatant as suitable as possible for the newest title. He already looks like he's going to be incredibly fun to play around with.
9 Rashid Was Considered High-Tier In Street Fighter 5
Capcom updated Street Fighter 5 for several years after its release, resulting in many characters being buffed and nerfed throughout that time. This meant the tier lists were constantly being adjusted, but one character who almost always ranked high was Rashid.
He was tricky to use, but if players could get a good handle on his special abilities and combos, they were able to rack up damage rapidly. It helped that he was one of the fastest characters in the game, making him very hard to pin down. Players can expect him to be just as tricky to overcome when he arrives in Street Fighter 6.
8 Rashid Is Now A Streamer
It was made evident in Street Fighter 5 that Rashid was a lover of technology, but this passion was only demonstrated by the eye-piece he wore during fights to analyze his opponents. In Street Fighter 6 though, Capcom has allowed his tech-savvy side to shine by making him a streamer.
At the beginning and end of each fight, Rashid will talk into his camera. He addresses his viewers while also trying to focus on the conflict, which helps to lean into his goofy personality. In fact, he even references his newfound love for streaming in some of his moves. In his Level 3 Super, he can be heard saying "Here comes Rashid for your viewing pleasure," while stomping his opponent into the ground.
7 Rashid Helped Take Down Shadaloo
Rashid plays an essential role in the story events of Street Fighter 5, so much so that many refer to him as the main protagonist of the game. Rashid seeks out his missing friend, whom he suspects has been kidnapped by the evil Shadaloo Corporation. Along the way, he saves Charlie from being killed by Urien, stands toe to toe with Juri in a fight, and stops the entire C.H.A.I.N.S Operation from happening.
All in all, while there were certainly other characters involved in bringing down Bison and his goons in the story of Street Fighter 5, most of the credit has to go to Rashid for his courageous efforts.
6 Rashid Is The First Middle Eastern Fighter
Part of the beauty of the Street Fighter series is that it is always expanding its cast of characters to represent different countries across the world. Rashid marked a first in the franchise as being the first fighter from the Middle East.
While his exact country of origin hasn't been specified, Capcom gave him clothing that related to the region, including a shemagh scarf and a black agal in Street Fighter 5. They've also equipped him with similar clothing in the new game. Rashid's official character artwork for Street Fighter 5 shows the Dubai skyline in the distance, suggesting that this may be his home city.
5 Rashid Has A Parkour Fighting Style
While parkour isn't usually labeled as a "martial art," the fast movements and quick lunges can still be used in an offensive manner. This is the type of fighting style that Rashid adopts when he enters a fight. In Street Fighter 6, Rashid seems to combine his parkour movements with some break dancing moves. The result is in a fun, frantic style that is very different from anyone else on the roster.
When matched with his whirlwind abilities which allow him to elevate in the sky, this makes Rashid one of the most agile fighters in the game. He's the perfect character to pick for players who love rushing down their opponents with quick combos to whittle down their health bar.
4 Rashid Excels In The Air
Rashid has always been known as a character who can dominate the neutral game. Now, Capcom is adding a few more tools to his kit which will make him an absolute menace in the air, making it extremely hard for an opponent to close the distance.
Not only does Rashid now have a high arching jump, he also has his very own double jump. He also has a spinning whirlwind move that can lift opponents into the air which provides the perfect opportunity for a combo. On top of all this, he has an air grab and a devastating overhead kick. Rashid is sure to be an annoyance for any characters who rely on moves in the air, such as Dhalsim.
3 Rashid Will Appear In World Tour
Each of the DLC characters released for Street Fighter 6 will be included in the single-player World Tour mode. This includes Rashid, who seems to be running around the nation of Nayshall at the very beginning of his trailer. This is most probably where players are going to be able to find him.
Adding extra characters into World Tour is a great way to keep the mode fresh and exciting. Considering players will presumably be able to learn from Rashid himself and adopt his high-flying fighting style, it will expand the customization options even more. This will undoubtedly lead to some fascinating combos when combined with other fighting styles.
2 Rashid Can Avoid Projectiles
One thing that made Rashid unique in Street Fighter 5 was that he would run instead of forward dashing. When the player pressed forward twice, he would start to sprint toward the target, which enabled him to use a few different moves in this state.
Luckily, Rashid will still be able to run in Street Fighter 6. While in this mode, he will be able to slide under projectiles and can even slide past the opponent entirely. This can leave them fully exposed if Rashid is fast enough. Like Jamie with his Bakkai spinning move, Rashid will be able to negate projectiles which. This him even more of a threat, especially against Ryu and Ken, who can be punished for firing off their Hadoken too often.
1 Rashid's Classic Costume Is Back
At the end of his gameplay trailer, Rashid is shown chilling on one of his whirlwind pools with his classic costume, confirming that it will indeed be available in the game. As of right now, it is unclear whether this costume will be unlockable by purchasing Rashid, or if it will be an extra unlockable that needs to be purchased in-game. Regardless, it's a welcome addition.
If players are lucky, Capcom might even decide to include Rashid's alternate costume in which he wears a dark gray shirt along with a pair of denim kaki pants. This outfit gives him a laid-back, casual look which suits his personality.
Street Fighter 6 is available now on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series S and X, and PC.
