Sucker Punch Productions has consistently been one of the PlayStation's top studios, putting out hits like the Sly Cooper platforming series, the open world action games Infamous, and most recently, open world samurai game Ghost of Tsushima. Sucker Punch's next game is rumored to be a Ghost of Tsushima sequel, but nothing official has been announced. While we don't know what Sucker Punch's next game is in an official capacity, we do know what it won't be, thanks to a recent post by the studio.
Sucker Punch published a post today announcing maintenance for Infamous 2's User Generated Content so that players will still be able to access them for a bit longer. Sucker Punch confirmed that, at some point, the Infamous 2 UGC servers will have to be shut down, though it didn't provide a window for when that may happen. On the bright side, it also confirmed that the Cole's Legacy DLC for Infamous: Second Son may be coming to the PlayStation Store at some point down the line. Previously, the Cole's Legacy DLC was only available to those with the Infamous: Second Son Collector's Edition.
As far as a new Infamous game goes, Sucker Punch confirmed in the post that it does not have any plans to revisit Infamous at this time. It added that it also has no plans to make a new Sly Cooper game yet either. Not only that, but Sucker Punch also shot down the persistent rumors that other studios have been given the reins to make new Infamous and Sly Cooper games instead. This is likely very disappointing news for fans of those franchise, especially since the rumors had come from fairly reliable sources. "These characters are very special and near and dear to our hearts, so while we'd never say never to re-opening those doors down the road, for now there are no inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper games in development," Sucker Punch said.
It was easy to believe the rumors about a new Sly Cooper game being in development. After all, Sucker Punch Productions didn't even develop the latest game in the series. Development of 2013's Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time was instead handled by Sanzaru Games, which has since been acquired by Facebook to make games for Meta virtual reality devices.
The rumor was that Sony had nevertheless found a different studio to make the next Sly Cooper game while Sucker Punch was busy making the Ghost of Tsushima sequel. According to the rumor, Concrete Genie developer PixelOpus was making the new Sly Cooper game, with a possible reveal to take place at the rumored PlayStation State of Play event that's expected to happen in September. It's rare for game studios to directly address rumors like this, so Sucker Punch making this statement means that these rumors were almost certainly based on false information.
