Rocksteady Studios, the developer behind the seminal Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Knight games, is looking to continue its success within the superhero genre in 2023 with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. With the release only a few months away, Rocksteady Studios will likely make a few more reveals and go in-depth on some of the game's more interesting details.
Originally slated for release in 2022, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is now set for May 26, 2023. At the moment, most of the news and information fans have to go off of for the game comes from four trailers previously released. The most recent trailer debuted in December 2022 at The Game Awards. In it, Rocksteady revealed that the beloved and iconic voice actor, Kevin Conroy, was able to lend his voice to help portray Batman one last time.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League News and Trailers Ahead of Release
Leading up to the game's release, fans can expect an increase in the rate of trailers and reveals, most likely around the beginning of February seeing as how Suicide Squad's latest trailer just came out.
The next possible trailers will most likely show more characters, probably including those on the side of the Justice League, and maybe even a few more villains.
At the moment, the Justice League characters that have already been revealed to be in the game are Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Green Lantern. This adds up to five members, which, as it stands, is relatively small compared to other Justice League teams. The mainline Justice League is usually composed of at least six core members, with a few potential wildcards as well. Of course, the number of members could be greater than that, but fans can expect to see at least one more member make an appearance. Aquaman would be the most likely guess considering the potential humor that could be added with the Suicide Squad making fun of him. But other possible additions to the team include Cyborg, Green Arrow, and Martian Manhunter. Yet, the number of team members still hasn't been confirmed and there isn't any substantial indication that these characters will even make an appearance.
If there are future trailers, they'll most likely be revealed at a few digital events such as Playstation's State of Play or an Xbox Showcase. James Gunn did state, however, that he wanted to share news regarding the new plans for DC's movies, starting in early 2023 and it wouldn't be surprising if more news is shared about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League at the same time as well.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Gameplay Deep Dives, Tie-Ins
With a big focus of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League being on the different members of the squad all being playable and having their own unique play style, it's very likely that Rocksteady Studios will highlight each character in their own trailer, and maybe even do a gameplay deep dive. Much like with Gotham Knights and Batman: Arkham Knight, Rocksteady Studios might decide to show behind-the-scenes looks at the making of the characters, showing off concept art, pre-alpha gameplay, and most likely interviews with the voice actors. Suicide Squad is bringing some strong and recognizable voice talent to the game, including the late Kevin Conroy as Batman and Tara Strong as Harley Quinn . One other notable actor to join the cast is Debra Wilson who Star Wars fans will know as Cere from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Wilson will be voicing Amanda Waller, the tough-as-nails shot-caller of the squad.
It's also very probable that Kill the Justice League will receive a tie-in comic book, though that has not been confirmed. Many of DC's past video games have received a comic prequel or tie-in of their own which have been commercially and critically successful. In the past, Rocksteady released prequel comics based off of Batman: Arkham City and Batman: Arkham Knight. But most notably, NetherRealm Studios helped put out the Injustice comic series, which is one of the more well-received newer comics to debut for DC within the past few years.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's Rogue Gallery 2023
Considering Rocksteady's pedigree of including multiple villains in their games, it wouldn't be surprising at all if there are more bad guys than just Brainiac and the mind-controlled Justice League. Small hints and nods at Poison Ivy, Lex Luthor, and The Penguin can be found in the trailer titled "Ticking." With the wacky and irreverent nature of the Suicide Squad, it's likely the game will also plucks some more obscure villains. A few guesses at who could possibly make an appearance include Polkadot Man, Peacemaker, and even Starro, perhaps in order to capitalize off of the success of James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. Also, with reportedly set in the same universe as the Arkham games, it's highly likely that Rocksteady will at least mention The Joker in the game, especially considering what happened to him in the Arkham trilogy.
Will Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Be Delayed
At this point in time, anything could still happen in regard to the development of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. While there isn't any indication that the game will be delayed and looks to be on track, Rocksteady has delayed their games extensively before. The game has already been delayed once when it was delayed from 2022 to May 26, 2023, so it's hoped that this delay has given Rocksteady enough time.
On a separate note, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is also releasing on PC. Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham Knight was plagued with issues on PC when it was initially released. Rocksteady will do its best to not make this mistake again, however, it certainly is something fans will want to keep in mind coming up to the game's release.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League DLC, Updates, and More
Rocksteady will most likely have a pre-order bonus as well as post-launch plans that will be revealed soon. Going off of what was done with the Arkham series and Gotham Knights, fans can expect to see some new outfits and cosmetic changes for those who pre-order. As far as DLC, there could possibly be some playable characters and story additions, similar to what was done with Batman: Arkham Knight and Gotham Knights post-launch. More post-launch details will likely be revealed after the game's release at E3 or Summer Games Fest in June. Additional details could be revealed at San Diego Comic Con which is set to occur in July.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set to be released on May 26, 2023, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
