  • The mod is not fully complete, but the creator plans to continue making mods for other characters, including Pauline.

A mod for Super Mario Bros. Wonder makes the fan favorite princess from Super Mario Galaxy, Rosalina, a playable character. Super Mario Bros. Wonder's playable cast is one of its strong points. Not only are the regulars like Mario, Luigi, and Toad an option to play as, but both Princess Peach and Daisy were also made playable. Daisy, a character previously limited to only appearing in spin-offs, was spotlighted as a very welcome addition to the playable roster of Wonder. Modders are adding other characters to Super Mario Bros. Wonder as well, with one being Rosalina.

Rosalina was first introduced in 2007's Super Mario Galaxy on the Nintendo Wii, and ever since then, has solidified herself as a fan favorite character. Rosalina has been playable in games after the release of Galaxy, including Mario Kart, Mario Golf, Super Smash Bros. And several other spin-offs. Rosalina would eventually become playable in the mainline console platformer Super Mario 3D World. While Rosalina is not playable in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, this mod gives her the chance to save the Flower Kingdom alongside Mario and his friends.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder Mod Makes Kirby Playable

One modder of the recently released Super Mario Bros. Wonder replaces one of the playable characters with another Nintendo hero, Kirby.

By

The Rosalina mod was created by Dyster as the first part of a series of mods known as "Women of Wonder." This Super Mario Bros. Wonder mod replaces the Blue Toad with the cosmic princess, which means also replacing several elements associated with them to make them more indicative of Rosalina. This includes a unique Elephant Rosalina model, power-up costumes, and even a balloon of a Luma for when the player uses the Parachute Cap badge. Other elements like the flagpole, lives counter, and even voice clips were also modified.

Despite all the work that went into making Rosaline playable, Dyster notes the mod is not entirely complete. Some Wonder Flower transformations in the game still use Toad's model, such as the Jumper, Goomba, and Slime. While Dyster has these models completed, they're looking for ways to implement them without breaking the ability to use both Toads.

Dyster notes that after this mod, they're going to be working on a Pauline mod, which will replace the Yellow Toad. Pauline is another underappreciated Super Mario Bros. Character, re-introduced to the franchise in Super Mario Bros. Odyssey. Since Odyssey's release, Pauline has been playable in games like Mario Strikers and Mario Kart Tour, but she is not playable in Wonder. Based on the quality of this Rosalina mod, fans should expect similar polish when Dyster makes Pauline playable in Wonder.
