A Super Mario Maker 2 player has done something incredible, clearing a million levels in the game. The remarkable achievement is receiving praise from the Super Mario Maker 2 community for the incredible commitment and amount of time invested into the title.

As the name implies, Super Mario Maker 2 is a game that allows players to create custom levels utilizing resources from across the Mario franchise. Even those who don't like to create the games can enjoy the game as a nearly-endless source of Mario levels to play through.

Super Mario Maker 2 just hit its sixth anniversary, and gamer and streamer DSteves celebrated the occasion by reaching one million custom levels cleared in a livestream. The streamer was extremely dedicated to the challenge, playing for 18 hours straight and clearing 1,000 levels during that time alone. DSteves claims it took all six years to reach this number, which breaks down to roughly 456 levels cleared per day, on average. The incredible number has set a record for Super Mario Maker 2, with the leaderboard showing DSteves as the #1 player across the entirety of the game, with the second-place player having cleared 834,437 courses, for comparison's sake.

Super Mario Fans React to Incredible Achievement

Numerous fans have shared praise for DSteves' achievement, with many calling it legendary. While DSteves could drop the game forever at this point and remain a legend, the Twitch streamer seemingly isn't stopping. On June 30, DSteves had completed another 50 runthroughs for a total of 1,000,050 levels completed. In any case, DSteves is still at the top of the leaderboard at this time, meaning they've completed the most levels of anyone out of the 8.42 million copies the game has sold to date.

This achievement is quite impressive, but it's not the only time that someone has showed their commitment to Super Mario Maker. In 2024, players learned that the original Super Mario Maker's servers would be shut down when the Wii U and 3DS went offline. With all of that fan-made content about to be lost, players realized that there were levels in the game that had never been successfully cleared. A community called Team 0 went to work on changing that, and ultimately managed to clear every one of them. This ultimately led to the team completing around 40,000 individual courses over the course of half a year, which is a legendary feat in its own right.
