Summary
- Team 0% completed every Super Mario Maker level before the Wii U shutdown, even the "impossible" level Trimming the Herbs.
- Trimming the Herbs was initially disqualified but was later beaten by sanyx91smm2 without a TAS tool,.
- While all the Super Mario Maker levels have been cleared, Team 0% continues their quest in Super Mario Maker 2 on the Nintendo Switch.
A dedicated Super Mario Maker player has completed a level that was initially declared "impossible" by the community, completing the goal of beating every single level uploaded to the game before the Wii U's services shut down. Nintendo previously announced the Wii U and 3DS online services will shut down on April 8, 2024.
Games like the first Super Mario Maker will be affected by this closure, with the shutdown of the online services barring players from downloading user-created levels. This shutdown also gave a dedicated group of Super Mario Maker players, Team 0%, a deadline for completing their goal of clearing every single level ever uploaded to the game. The group had already completed its initial goal of clearing every legally uploaded level to the service 24 days before the Wii U's online shutdown. One level, "Trimming the Herbs," was disqualified from the levels that were a part of this total due to being illegally uploaded using a Tool-Assisted Speedrun (TAS) and considered impossible to clear by conventional human reflexes.
The Best Wii U Games Ever Made, Ranked
Owners of the Wii U had several fun games to choose from despite eventually being overshadowed by the Nintendo Switch.
Despite the level being disqualified and many players celebrating that Team 0% completed its goal of beating every Super Mario Maker level before the Wii U shutdown, many were disheartened that the efforts players had put into Trimming the Herbs were mostly for naught. That said, there were still some incredibly dedicated players of the team who were determined to beat the level legally without a TAS. With only two days before the Wii U's online services shut down, Trimming the Herbs was beaten by @sanyx91smm2. Team 0% uploaded a VOD of the successful run, showing the once impossible level that could only be cleared with a TAS tool has been cleared by a human player.
Super Mario Maker - Trimming the Herbs Run by sanyx91smm2
Many fans celebrated how Team 0% has managed to finally complete their goal of beating every single Mario Maker level, with this completion coming pretty close to the deadline. Many joked that sanyx91smm2's clear of Trimming the Herbs could be a part of the team's "102% run," as Ahoyo, the creator of Trimming the Herbs, also uploaded an illegal level called Bombs5. Both Bombs5 and Trimming the Herbs require an incredible amount of precision that could realistically only be beaten through TAS tools, but were both beaten by human players.
While all the levels in Super Mario Maker have now been cleared, this isn't the end of Team 0%. Super Mario Maker 2 on Nintendo Switch has a number of levels uploaded that have also yet to be beaten. Fans looking to continue tracking the team's efforts and statistics can join the Team 0% Discord server, which provides accurate numbers and information.
