Nintendo has confirmed that Pauline, a fan favorite character in the Super Mario franchise, will be playable in the upcoming Super Mario Party Jamboree game. Super Mario Party Jamboree is set to be one of the biggest and most ambitious games in the Mario Party spin-off series, featuring possibly the highest number of playable characters and minigames compared to prior entries. Super Mario Party Jamboree is set for an October 17, 2024, release, meaning fans won't need to wait that much longer for the party game's launch.
Not much about the game has been revealed ever since Super Mario Party's initial announcement during the June 2024 Nintendo Direct. The trailer boasted a huge number of selectable characters, which included a number of iconic fan favorites, like Mario, Peach, Rosalina, Wario, and Waluigi, with enemies like Goomba, Spike, Boo, Ninji, and even Monty Mole being playable in this entry as well. While the initial trailer appeared to show the full roster of playable characters for Super Mario Party Jamboree, Nintendo was hiding some characters from fans after all, as Pauline has been confirmed to be one of the newcomers to Jamboree's roster.
Nintendo Highlights 7 Big Upcoming Switch Exclusive Games
Nintendo shines the spotlight on seven upcoming Switch exclusives that are coming in late 2024 and at various points throughout 2025.
With Jamboree's October launch imminent, Nintendo put up a website for Super Mario Jamboree, detailing the game's features, new modes, and returning minigames. In some of the screenshots posted on the websites, fans can spot Pauline, who is participating in some of the minigames. Pauline is one of the most popular female Mario characters, and is a highly requested character that many fans want to play as. Super Mario Party Jamboree marks the first time Pauline will be playable in a Mario Party game.
Pauline's History in the Super Mario Franchise
Pauline was first introduced in the Donkey Kong arcade game and is the first love interest of Mario, before the series settled on Princess Peach. While she made sporadic appearances in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong spin-off series, Pauline made a big return in 2017's Super Mario Odyssey, playing a supporting role as New Donk City's mayor and helping Mario in his quest to save Peach from Bowser. Pauline has since become a prominent character in the franchise, becoming a playable character in spin-off games like Mario Tennis Aces and Mario Strikers Battle League. Pauline even made a cameo in the Super Mario Bros. Movie as the mayor of Brooklyn.
Just like with her playable appearance in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as a Booster Pass DLC Character, Pauline will appear with her classic look from the Mario vs. Donkey Kong spin-offs, as opposed to her big band dress or the suit she wears as the mayor in Super Mario Odyssey. Pauline's addition makes her the second new character in Super Mario Party Jamboree's playable roster, following Ninji.
