The first episode of Superman & Lois Season 4 immediately showed his death with Doomsday tossing Clark Kent's lifeless body at his family's feet. Viewers haven't recovered yet when Amanda McCoy (Yvonne Chapman) approaches Lex and hands him a device. The exchange between the pair hints about the potential arrival of another supervillain. " Not much to look at, but Milton assured me it would work," Amanda says. "He did good," Lex answers and inspects the device in his hand. "How about we keep that between us?" McCoy adds. "The last thing that brainiac needs is this going to his head." Per ComicBookMovie, the mention of Brainiac was a nod to Milton Fine.

Brainiac first appeared in Action Comics #645 in 1989. He was a psychic who performed in a low-level circus where he was dubbed "The Amazing Brainiac." Vril Drox, aka Brainiac, was an alien intelligence who took over his body and turned him into an evil artificial intelligence. Brainiac was from planet Colu and was initially depicted as a green-skinned alien before he used Milton's body. Brainiac retained Milton's psychic abilities and even expanded them using his own superpowers, enabling Milton to telepathize, use telekineses, and control minds. In the comics, Milton was responsible for a lot of Superman's troubles due to Brainiac's cold and calculating nature.

However, there's no mention of Milton in the second episode, so he might not appear, especially since Superman is already dead. The second episode of Superman & Lois Season 4 dealt with the incidents following Superman's death as his children, Jordan and Jonathan, tried to retrieve their father's heart from Lex. However, they underestimated the latter, who destroyed the organ in front of Jordan. As the series approaches its few remaining episodes, fans can expect more highly emotional scenes. Episode 2 ended with Superman still dead physically, but his hologram appeared to guide his family members as they navigated his death amid Lois' cancer battle. His return, even in the form of a hologram, keeps the hope alive that he can still be revived later in the season.

Superman will likely be revived as there are multiple indications of his potential return. The show draws inspiration from the "Death of Superman" storyline, in which the superhero dies but is later resurrected. Considering the parallels with the comic arc and set photos from future episodes, there is a high chance that Superman will return before the season concludes. So, there are still chances for Brainiac to appear. But regardless, the show will likely have a happy ending with Superman alive.

Superman & Lois airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the CW.
