He wasn't some dopey Venusian catapulted onto this planet just to have the world fawn over him! Because his strength illuminates how WEAK we all really are! So, my envy is a calling! If Lex Luthor is known for any three things, let it be this: He’s bald, he’s super intelligent, and he has an immensely petty hatred for Superman. All three of those are combined in Nicholas Hoult’s performance as Lex Luthor, and they pour out of him like an explosion of dialogue through his final monologue of the movie. Lex rants about his ego and he superior he is to not just Superman, but to the most famous of intellectuals throughout history. His verbal beating of Superman is only aided by his fury unleashed through Ultraman’s punches with a cry of 1A!

Superman hasn’t had an easy week. Not only has he had his first big fight with Lois in their 3-month relationship, but he’s also just found out, along with the entire world, that his parents from Krypton sent him to Earth to conquer the planet. As Lois visits Clark in his apartment, they talk about frustrations and differences, with Lois expressing how Superman sees everyone as beautiful and his hope and optimism for a better tomorrow isn’t punk rock, but pop radio. Superman’s response is simple: he tells Lois that maybe the real punk rock is seeing the beauty in everyone, to focus on the good, not the bad, in a world that’s just so negative.

Superman has been through a lot, and with thirty years of believing that his parents sent him to Earth in a desperate attempt to save his life from a dying planet, he finally discovers the “truth”. Jor-El and Lara’s message is recovered and translated to show that Superman was sent here to kill people and conquer the planet, but a loving speech from his true dad, Jonathan Kent, makes Clark see that his heritage isn’t what makes him Superman, it’s his own belief – the decisions that he makes and the way he feels. Superman isn’t defined by his culture or where he’s from, but the choices he makes to save people with his gifts, finalizing everything with Pa Kent saying how proud he is for a true tearjerker.
