For years, DC Comics fans have called for the comic book publisher and Warner Bros. To develop a dedicated Superman video game in the same vein as the Batman Arkham series or the recent PlayStation-exclusive Spider-Man games. While DC Comics and Warner Bros. Have released Superman-focused games before, they’ve primarily been based on movies and TV shows to largely less than favorable reviews, such as the infamous Superman 64 or the disappointing Superman Returns game. However, with DC and Warner Bros. Releasing the first solo Superman film since 2013’s Man of Steel on July 11th, Superman fans can take to the skies as The Last Son of Krypton in two very different games: Minecraft and Fortnite.
Superman (2025) Review
Editor-in-chief Anthony Taormina got to see the new Superman (2025) movie ahead of its worldwide release in order to bring you this review.
Minecraft and Fortnite’s Superman 2025 Crossovers Explained
Originally titled Superman: Legacy and now simply called Superman, the upcoming film will be the first entry in the new cinematic DC Universe headed by Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn following the dissolution of the previously Zack Snyder-headed DC Extended Universe. To celebrate the Man of Steel’s return to the big screen, Mojang and Epic Games have collaborated with DC and Warner Bros to release new Superman-themed content for Minecraft and Fortnite.
The first of the two to release was Minecraft’s Superman Skin Pack, which can currently be downloaded for free on Minecraft’s Marketplace. The Skin Pack features five characters from the film: Superman, Lois Lane, Guy Gardner Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Mr. Terrific. While none of these skins grants players their superhuman abilities, Minecraft players can replicate Superman, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl’s ability to fly by using elytra or simply flying around in Creative Mode to recreate scenes from the Superman film.
Gamers can use most of Superman’s powers in Fortnite’s upcoming Superman Mythic drop this weekend. Launching on Friday, July 11, Fortnite players can encounter a Superman’s Call crystal based on his iconic shield symbol for a chance to transform into Superman. As Clark Kent, players can fly, melt structures with heat vision, and pummel others with superhuman strength. However, Fortnite’s Superman is not invincible and can be taken down by common Fortnite means, resulting in the Superman player reverting to their normal self.
Fortnite’s Additional Superman Content and Features
Superman’s Call crystal isn’t the only Superman content coming to Fortnite this weekend. Starting July 15, in Battle Royale and Zero Build matches, players can travel to Superman’s Kryptonian crystal-based Fortress of Solitude and meet with the Man of Steel, who will be offering services in exchange for Bars. Additionally, the new Surging Speed Boon can be found in Chests or at Academy Tech Labs, allowing players to sprint faster than a speeding bullet and consume less Energy.
If players purchase the Super Battle Pass, they can further unlock a Superman Outfit with one style based on David Corenswet’s Superman and a new Pen & Ink style designed by legendary artist and DC Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee. With the Battle Pass and Shop, players can acquire other Superman 2025-themed cosmetics, including:
- Daily Flight Glider
- Super Cape Back Bling
- Crystal Smasher Pickaxe
- Super Save Emote
- Mister Terrific Outfit
- The Engineer (DC) Outfit
Superman’s Potential Video Game Resurgence
While Superman’s official presence in Fortnite’s Battle Royale and Zero Build matches is expected to only last for a limited time, once Fortnite’s Battle Royale Chapter 6 Season 3: Super ends, the 2025 film's expected success could potentially lead to Superman having an increased presence in gaming. While Superman’s theatrical profits remain to be seen, early screenings of the film have already received favorable reviews, with Rotten Tomatoes reviewers labeling it as Certified Fresh at 83%.
If Superman does turn out to be a widespread critical and financial success, DC Comics, Warner Bros., and Gunn should consider developing a dedicated Superman game. Aside from game crossovers, Superman has appeared in relatively recent games but primarily as an antagonist seen in Injustice 2 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. While rumors persist of NetherRealm’s next title being Injustice 3, DC could shock players by announcing the development of a new Superman game exploring the early years of David Corenswet’s Superman. This would be due to Gunn’s plan to develop new DC video games that take place in the DCU's shared timeline. Otherwise, Superman may just continue appearing as a side character or as a simple reference in other DCU games.
