For years, rumors have been swirling that Warner Bros. Interactive had a Superman video game in the works. Nothing has been officially announced, and it seems that's because the Superman project was canceled. In any case, some new art has emerged online of the canceled Superman game, showing what appears to be Superman himself flying through Metropolis.
The art was posted online by Twitter user tatlinsky, who found it on Joel Dos Reis Viegas' personal website. Joel previously worked at WB Games Montreal, having worked on Batman: Arkham Origins as a character artist. Joel also worked on Batman: Arkham Knight DLC costumes. Considering this, it does seem as though these could legitimately be concept art for the rumored Superman and Suicide Squad video games that have both apparently been canceled.
As far as Suicide Squad goes, there are a couple of images that appear to represent that particular game. One image shows a prisoner meeting with Amanda Waller, and the other is a bunch of Harley Quinn sketches.
While it appears as though the rumored Superman and Suicide Squad video games have been canceled, that doesn't mean that DC is not going to expand its space in the video game industry. On the contrary, WB Games Montreal has been actively teasing a new Batman game for months, one that is rumored to center around the Court of Owls storyline. More ambitious rumors have gone as far as to claim that the new Batman game from WB Games Montreal will even be used to kick off a DC games universe.
According to the rumors, Rocksteady's next-gen project will follow the WB Games Montreal Batman game, supposedly set to launch this fall, which will then be followed up by a Superman game. However, it should be stressed that none of this has been confirmed at the time of this writing, and so fans should keep their expectations in check.
Warner Bros. Was going to be at E3 2020, where it was expected to unveil its big upcoming projects as part of a major press conference. Unfortunately, the coronavirus has caused E3 2020 to be canceled, and so it's unclear when exactly Warner Bros. Will be pulling the curtain back on its upcoming games. Hopefully more details come sooner rather than later.
Superman was rumored to be in development for unspecified platforms.
