Summary
- Hogwarts Legacy, a best-selling Harry Potter action-RPG, is set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 with improved graphics.
- The Switch 2 version will also support mouse controls.
- There doesn't appear to be an upgrade path for existing Hogwarts Legacy owners on Switch 1.
2023's best-selling game, the popular Harry Potter action-RPG Hogwarts Legacy, will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 when the next-generation console launches on June 5. Hogwarts Legacy was a massive sales success when it was first released in 2023. Selling over 30 million copies worldwide and earning critical acclaim, there's no denying that Hogwarts Legacy was a huge hit.
Part of the reason why Hogwarts Legacy performed so well commercially is because the game was readily available on nearly every major gaming platform. While it was initially released only for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, Hogwarts Legacy was eventually ported to PS4 and Xbox One. Then, some time after that, Hogwarts Legacy also made its way to the original Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch port of Hogwarts Legacy is by far the worst way to play the game due to concessions that had to be made to get it running properly on Nintendo's home console/handheld hybrid, which may make the upcoming Switch 2 port of the game especially interesting to Nintendo gamers.
Here Are All The House Exclusive Quests In Hogwarts Legacy
The House a player chooses in Hogwarts Legacy affects gameplay, mostly cosmetic, but with one big mechanical change: House Exclusive Quests.
Hogwarts Legacy was one of the Switch 2 launch titles revealed at the latest Nintendo Direct presentation. The game will be available day-and-date on Nintendo's new console, and this version will be quite the upgrade from the original Switch release. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Hogwarts Legacy will feature superior graphics when compared to the Switch release, with no load screens separating sections of the game world. Not only that, but Hogwarts Legacy on Switch 2 is confirmed to support the console's mouse controls, offering a new way to play the game.
Hogwarts Legacy is Coming to Switch 2
Removing load times will help Hogwarts Legacy's open world shine like it does on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, and should be a massive improvement for Nintendo gamers. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a straight-forward upgrade path. Hogwarts Legacy on Switch 2 isn't being billed as a "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" game, meaning that players will likely have to pay full price for it. This is disappointing for sure, but Switch 2 owners that haven't already played through the original game may very well be tempted to pick it up.

Hogwarts Legacy on Switch 2 may be the last time that the open-world action-RPG gets re-released. Avalanche Software is currently working on a Hogwarts Legacy sequel, but the game is likely years away from release.
