The Nintendo Switch 2 received an update on July 19, fixing backward compatibility bugs for over a dozen games. This gives players who own the Nintendo Switch 2 access to more titles from the company's previous console.
The Nintendo Switch 2 takes a different approach to backward compatibility compared to most other consoles. It combines both hardware compatibility and software emulation in order to help a past Switch game to be converted into Switch 2 format in real time. However, some titles have had issues being played via backward compatibility following the new console's release. Nintendo has even created a list on its official site, pointing out all the titles that are having issues to help players know which ones to avoid playing on their Switch 2.

As reported by Nintendo Everything, Nintendo has taken another step in fixing backward compatibility on the Switch 2, repairing bugs in over a dozen games with a new update. While this update fixes a decent number of games, there are still plenty that are having issues running on Nintendo Switch 2. The majority of those that are affected are having problems starting up. While some past titles can be booted on the Switch 2, they may have in-game compatibility issues, causing them to not work as they should. Nintendo has confirmed several other games that have compatibility issues that it plans to fix, such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This means that the catalog of games available via backward compatibility on the Switch 2 is becoming more and more complete as developers work to address these ongoing issues.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has sold millions of units since launch, and had a decent number of third-party launch titles on release, with many new first-party games in development. With the number of Switch titles that have backward compatibility growing, the Switch 2 will soon have an even bigger library of games for fans to pick up and play.
