Hollow Knight Silksong Has DLC Plans
In an interesting twist, considering that Silksong originally began life as DLC, Team Cherry has plans for more post-launch content. In an interview with Bloomberg, Team Cherry co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen reveal that there are plans for more content months after launch, and potentially years as well. The duo admit that some of the stuff the studio is working on is pretty ambitious, but is equally exciting.
While details remain slim, Pellen indicated that the studio continued to add new things to Silksong following its initial reveal, eventually outgrowing just a simple DLC expansion and instead becoming a standalone game. However, through the years, the team continued to add to the game, eventually realizing that in order to even ship the game, work on new content had to stop so focus could just be on getting to the finish line. Gibson recalled, "I remember at some point I just had to stop sketching, because I went, ‘Everything I’m drawing here has to end up in the game. That’s a cool idea, that’s in. That’s a cool idea, that’s in.’ You realize, ‘If I don’t stop drawing, this is going to take 15 years to finish.’"
Ultimately, the desire to keep adding and how fun the development process was the main reason why Hollow Knight Silksong was in such a lengthy development period. However, all of these ideas that ultimately couldn't make the launch version of the game will likely be available to be added as downloadable content. Based on just how many ideas the small team managed to come up with, it seems Hollow Knight fans will have plenty to look forward to down the road.
