Team Fortress 2 has revealed that it's getting an update in the near future, and players are being asked to participate in bringing it to life. The new Team Fortress 2 update will revolve around the game's PvE mode, Mann vs. Machine.

Mann vs. Machine was added to Team Fortress 2 back in 2012, with the title's first official co-op mode wowing the community. Ordinarily, mercenaries would face off against each other, but as was revealed in a cinematic trailer, this game mode pulls a six-player team together to face off against waves of robot versions of the mercenaries. The co-op mode was a huge success, and is still well-liked to this day, but now a new update could breathe new life into the game mode.

Valve unexpectedly released a new blog teaser for a TF2 update, and wants community members to participate. In a tongue-in-cheek fashion, the blog post teases that the Mann vs. Machine game mode will be receiving an update on or around August 27. This is just the first part of a two-part update, with the second half arriving in the lead-up to Halloween. The exact contents of the first half of the Mann vs. Machine update aren't known at this time, but from the sound of it, the second half will primarily consist of new maps and missions from community members. Those who are inclined to create content for the game are asked to submit their maps no later than August 27.

What TF2 Players Can Expect from Mann vs. Machine Update

With the update to the Mann vs. Machine mode being split into two parts, the first half will likely include bug fixes and general adjustments to the game mode. While it wasn't explicitly stated that Valve would be releasing any maps of its own, it seems likely that players can likely expect at least one new mission with the first half of the update. Mere bug fixes and adjustments would be a let-down for many players who are already upset about the lack of updates made to TF2 in recent years. However, given the call for community submissions, players shouldn't expect too much new content from the first half of the update, with the majority likely arriving through Valve-approved community submissions around Halloween.

The TF2 blog mentions that players are not required to base their Mann vs. Machine maps around Halloween themes, despite the timing. However, with the second half of the update launching around Halloween, it stands to reason that the game mode will be incorporated into Team Fortress 2's Halloween celebrations. As with most seasonal celebrations in the game, players can likely also expect a variety of new cosmetics to be added to the game.
