The Tekken 8 development team is offering some free rewards to players in an attempt to appease the community following complaints regarding the release of the Gemaji Temple stage. The team has issued a public apology to Tekken 8 fans and plans to deliver an extra Battle Stage DLC for Player Character Year 1 Pass holders and free Tekken Coins to all players.
Launched in late January 2024, the game started off on a bad foot with its fans by announcing the inclusion of a Tekken 8 Battle Pass that upset many players who saw the move as a cash grab after they'd already bought the game for full price. More recently, fans have aired additional complaints about the Year 1 Pass for DLC characters following the announcement that the Gemaji Temple stage DLC would require an additional $5 purchase.
PUBG Mobile is Crossing Over With Tekken 8
PUBG Mobile launches a crossover event with Tekken 8, letting players pick up outfits, emotes, weapons and more based on three fighters.
Outrage over the perceived greed at the hands of Bandai Namco spurred players to review bomb Tekken 8 to great effect, dropping its recent review scores on Steam into the Mostly Negative category in early October. Those scores, issued within the last 30 days, have increased to Mixed with a 53 percent approval rating, and a recent public apology on Twitter seems like an attempt to get back in players' good graces. All players who log in to the game between October 29 and November 26 will receive 500 Tekken Coins, and the team has also announced an extra Battle Pass Stage DLC that subscribers to its Year 1 Character Pass will receive at no additional charge sometime this winter.
Tekken 8 Team Offers Free Rewards Following Backlash
While initially appearing on the game's official Twitter page, the apology has also been shared by Tekken 8 director and executive producer Katsuhiro Harada, who has a reputation for actively interacting with his fans on social media. Harada has worked with Tekken since its infancy, serving as a voice actor in the first two games before assuming his directorial career starting with Tekken 3. Comments on Harada's post carry a much more positive tone than the ones on the game's official page, with some players acknowledging he was likely not the one behind the decision to charge extra for the Gemaji Temple stage, though most still feel that stage should be retroactively be made free for Season Pass holders.
While there's been no information released yet regarding what the freshly announced DLC stage will be, fans can be relatively certain that it's not going to be set at a Waffle House. Fans have been requesting a Waffle House stage in Tekken 8 for a long time, initially confusing Harada, who had been unaware of the restaurant chain's meme-worthy reputation as a location for brawls. While seemingly amused, Harada noted in March that any such collaboration would require the cooperation of Waffle House, though some fans suggested workarounds, such as a similarly-themed pancake restaurant.
