Tekken 8 and Atelier Yumia have kicked off the start of their collaboration, but the players aren't thrilled with Tekken 8's half of the collab. While far from the first collaboration that Tekken 8 has had, players are pointing out how it seems that Atelier Yumia is putting considerably more effort into the collaboration than Tekken 8's side did.
Back on March 20, Tekken 8 and Atelier Yumia announced their collaboration with a brief teaser, parodying the classic meme of throwing Heihachi off a cliff. In this version, the protagonist of Atelier Yumia approaches the edge of the cliff and throws a Heihachi Puni off of the cliff, before turning her head to smile at the camera, similarly to the classic Tekken cutscene. The same moment has been parodied a number of times, including in promotions for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Now, the Tekken 8 portion of the crossover has landed, and fans are reportedly underwhelmed. Tekken 8 has added two accessories, including a Puni slime and an ahoge, the hair curl that sticks up off of Yumia's hair. The crossover also included a background, plate, and avatar t-shirt. However, that's the full extent of what Tekken 8 is doing. While the Atelier Yumia side of the crossover hasn't yet launched, it previously teased what it would be adding, including a side quest, complete with a Heihachi Puni enemy, and an outfit for Yumia based on Reina's standard Tekken 8 look.
Tekken 8 and Atelier Yumia Fans Respond to Crossover Effort
Players have already been sharing thoughts on the Tekken 8 side of the crossover, with numerous users feeling disappointed in Tekken 8's additions. Users have pointed out the effort that Atelier Yumia has made for its side, while Tekken 8's offering is underwhelming. One user called it a "crime," while another imagined being a hard-working developer "putting in the effort so your collab partner won't look bad" just to see what Tekken 8 had done in return. The issue is made all the more frustration for fans as a Tekken 8 tweet released just days prior featured a piece of art showing Yumia and Reina swapping outfits entirely.
Atelier Yumia's side of the collaboration will launch on July 23, so players will be able to go hands-on with its offerings then. Barring any last-minute changes on its side, though, it seems that Atelier Yumia will have more content for fans to enjoy than Tekken 8 did.
However, it's not all bad news for Tekken 8. Fahkumram has arrived in Tekken 8's Early Access and will launch for all players on July 10. Later in the year, Armor King and a new challenger yet to be revealed will also arrive, giving players something new and exciting to wait for. With any luck, players enjoy those additions more than the Atelier Yumia crossover.
