- Fans like Chris have created retro-inspired Tekken 8 mods that transform characters into classic versions, expanding the game's customization options.
An impressive collection of Tekken 8 mods gives characters like Kazuya Mishima, Jin Kazama, and Paul Phoenix their classic looks from the original PlayStation era - blocky polygon textures and all. Tekken 8 sees the return of many longtime Tekken fighters, all of whom sport updated designs and improved graphics thanks to Unreal Engine 5. Paul in particular has a noticeably different look from his last appearance in Tekken 7, with Tekken 8 swapping out his trademark high-top fade haircut for a more relaxed style that has garnered a mixed response from fans.
Jin and Kazuya look more or less the same in Tekken 8 as they have throughout the series, though the latter has gained an advanced True Devil transformation that makes him an even bigger threat to the world. Overall, Tekken 8 is considered by many to be the best-looking entry in the long-running franchise, but there are quite a few old-school fans who miss the blocky textures and polygon models of the classic PS1 games - and some of them have worked to recreate the look of the first few installments through various character mods.
Tekken 8 Adding Microtransactions With New Shop Feature
Tekken 8 could be adding microtransactions in its upcoming shop feature, and players are already divided on whether this is a good thing.
One such modder is simply known as Chris, and they have been sharing some of their retro-inspired Tekken 8 mods on a designated website called Tekkenmods. Among the various old-school reskins Chris has posted are polygon versions of the feuding father/son duo of Kazuay Mishima and Jin Kazama, who now sport their classic looks from the original Tekken and Tekken 3 respectively. Another Tekkenmods post sees Paul transformed back into his older self from Tekken 2, complete with his black biker attire and Guile-like flat-top hairstyle. These mods replace certain costume choices in Tekken 8’s customization suite, with all three utilizing the Iron Skull Mask for the head.
Tekken 8 Already Has An Impressive Mod Scene
These Tekken 8 mods can all be seen in action in a YouTube compilation from OMEGA MISHIMA, alongside many more impressive reskins that transform the game’s roster into characters from other games and entertainment media. Some of the examples shown in this video are a version of Spider-Man that seems to be inspired by his appearances in recent titles like Marvel’s Avengers and Marvel’s Midnight Suns, various One Piece characters like Monkey D. Luffy and Sanji, and even Armor King from past Tekken games.
Tekken 8 has only been out for less than a month as of this writing, but it has already become a major success in terms of reviews and sales figures. This also makes the game’s considerable modding scene all the more impressive, with fans adding classic versions of some of Tekken’s most famous combatants as alternate skins for their Tekken 8 selves. This will likely increase as the months go on, with upcoming Tekken 8 DLC characters like Eddy Goro adding to the modding possibilities.
