Tekken 8 is the newest entry in the legendary Tekken fighting game series, and acts as the direct sequel to Tekken 7, which was released over nine years ago. Tekken 8 launched with a total of 32 playable characters, 29 of which have made at least one appearance in previous games throughout the series. Tekken 8 is both a technical and graphical marvel, offering longtime fans and newcomers alike something to enjoy. However, several issues have been plaguing online play, with developers confirming changes are finally on the way.

Tekken 8 Fans Upset with Battle Pass Announcement

A large portion of the Tekken 8 community is lashing out after developers confirmed the game would be getting its own battle pass soon.

On the official TEKKEN_project Twitter account, the Tekken 8 developers announced that the team is currently working on fixing six main issues currently affecting the game, which will be addressed with in an upcoming update. The developers have maintained consistent communication with the game's dedicated community, going as far as to explain why they included an in-game item shop in Tekken 8. In the short amount of time Tekken 8 has been available, the game has received several updates and balancing changes already, with the developers announcing a new wave of fixes are now being worked on.

These new changes seek to improve Tekken 8's already impressive and satisfying gameplay even further. The major issues being worked on include changes to the back dash mechanic, collision and hitboxes, as well as changes to the iconic Tekken character Eddy Gordo, who is offered as part of Tekken 8's Playable Character Year 1 Pass. Six core issues will be addressed as part of this Patch 1.03.01., all of which revolve around unintended character behaviors.

Developers Announce Incoming Fixes for Tekken 8

  1. Zafina - Back dash distance is shorter than expected.
  2. Tornado The collision detection between characters and walls has been adjusted to address the issue of players slipping through opponents and whiffing when performing a Rage Art after executing a Tornado near a wall. However, this made certain existing combos inconsistent.
  3. Rage Art and Heat Burst In specific situations, opponents are able to move during the time freeze animation before the activation of Rage Arts or Heat Bursts.
  4. Azucena "Espresso Agresión" The team had initially implemented balancing adjustments in version 1.03.01 with the assumption of "evading sideways and then counterattacking." However, there is current difficulty in executing counterattacks.
  5. Eddy "Heat Dash" - Addresses the ability to activate Heat Dash despite whiffing in specific circumstances.
  6. Eddy "Dash and Back Dash" Addresses unintended dashes or back dashes.

Developers hope to strengthen Tekken 8's gameplay even further with the implementation of this upcoming patch. Tekken 8 has a long road ahead, with the team confirming that the game will be getting its own battle pass that players can work through. This is a common practice found in online multiplayer games, but fans pushed back against the idea of being charged more on top of Tekken 8's $70 price point. There will be a free and paid version offered, both featuring limited time items that players can snag. This marks a big change for the series, however, with many fans criticizing the decision to further monetize Tekken 8.
