The Terminator franchise has been a staple of the action blockbuster world for just over four decades. 1985's The Terminator was met with mixed reviews at the time of its release, but it's since become heralded as an all-time Sci-Fi great, and its 1991 sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, is still widely considered to be one of the greatest action movies ever made. Arguably, there hasn't been a genuinely great Terminator movie since T2, but the franchise has remained in the public conscious thanks in no small part to its references and cameos in other media.
Along with a plethora of Terminator games over the years – like the Terminator 2 arcade game and the much more recent Terminator: Resistance – the franchise has seen its fair share of cameo appearances in other video game series, with some of its most memorable being skins in Gears of War 5 and Fortnite. These cameos help to keep Terminator in the mainstream spotlight, and it's just been thrust there once again thanks to Call of Duty and Mortal Kombat.
Terminator Is Already Having a Strong Year in the Gaming World
The Terminator is Back in Call of Duty
All the way back in August 2022, The Terminator crossed over with Call of Duty: Vanguard and Call of Duty: Warzone. For a limited time, players could purchase two bundles based on the beloved Sci-Fi action franchise, one granting players a skin based on Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-800, and the other giving players a skin based on Robert Patrick's T-1000, both coming from Terminator 2: Judgment Day. These bundles also included a bevy of unique voicelines, weapon blueprints, and other themed cosmetics.
With the introduction of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2, The Terminator makes its return to the military shooter franchise. Expected to arrive in the store at the beginning of February, players will be able to purchase a new Terminator-themed Operator bundle, this time giving players a T-800 skin based on Arnie's appearance in the original 1985 movie. This bundle also comes with an Operator skin based on the Terminator's iconic metallic endoskeleton, along with some themed weapon blueprints, a finishing move, an emote, and some extra cosmetics.
Terminator 2's T-1000 Is Coming to Mortal Kombat 1
Mortal Kombat 1 is coming to the end of its currently-announced DLC plans, with Terminator 2's T-1000 being the final fighter confirmed to appear. While there's no confirmed release date for MK1's T-1000 DLC fighter, it seems likely that he'll arrive sometime in March, as Conan the Barbarian has just come to the game two months after Ghostface, which suggests that T-1000's release is around two months away.
Robert Patrick will be reprising his role of the T-1000 in Mortal Kombat 1.
But much like Call of Duty, this isn't the first time the Mortal Kombat series has crossed over with Terminator. The T-800 was the third DLC character to come to Mortal Kombat 11 back in October 2019. Though MK11's T-800 had Arnold Schwarzenegger's likeness (specifically based on his appearance in 2019's Terminator: Dark Fate), he didn't return to voice the fighter, instead leaving that up to actor Chris Cox.
