Released on September 12, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is the first new entry in the long-running Test Drive racing game series in nearly 12 years. Players who purchased the Silver Sharps Edition, Silver Streets Edition, or Gold Edition gained early access on September 5, giving them an entire week to race the streets of Hong Kong and fill up their garage with supercars. Unfortunately, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown launched with major issues, including server instability and matchmaking problems that prevented others from racing together in events. A major patch was released on September 30 with more than 300 bug fixes to alleviate the issues that players faced, but the developers at KT Racing reiterated that more work needed to be done to improve the state of Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. After installing the update, PS5 gamers should notice a more consistent frame rate in Performance mode, and the resolution in Quality mode has been increased from 1080p to 1440p. Overall performance and device compatibility with select Fanatec and Logitech peripherals will be improved in the Xbox Series X|S version as well, and over 40 bug fixes will be applied to all versions of the game.
Further, Nacon notes that improvements to driver AI and ranked matchmaking are in the works. The Expert AI setting will be tuned for a more accessible gameplay experience in an update launching before or at the start of Season 2, while ranked matchmaking adjustments will be implemented over time. It remains unclear whether an offline mode will be added to the game, despite many fans asking for an alternative to Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown's online-only campaign, however.
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown Season 1 is ongoing until December 18, and players can expect new content and their compensation shortly after the first season ends. Season 2 is expected to bring new cars in Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, along with a new Solar Pass and more races and events.
