Technician Jan is the very first alter that Jan talks to in The Alters, and he is indeed difficult to get along with earlier in the game. However, if players want to have a good relationship with him and complete his questline, they must find a way to make him happy.
The Alters: Trophy/Achievement Guide
There are a total of fifty-six achievements or trophies in The Alters, and some of them are not easy to complete without a bit of help.
There is a way for the players to become a little bit friendly with Technician Jan earlier in the game by cooking a favorite dish, but there is more that needs to be done to get closer to him and learn a lesson from this alternative life path. Only upon doing so will Assertiveness be unlocked.
How To Learn Assertiveness In The Alters
Jan can learn one primary lesson from each of his alters, and Assertiveness is the lesson taught by Technician. The quest for this, A Place to Rest, will become available during Act 1, when Technician Jan requests to talk to the player about something.
So, speak with him and accept his request to build a Dormitory module in the base. This is an important module for all the alters, and it will eventually be a must-have part of the base. As such, it's best to get it done soon.
Sometime after building the Dormitory, talk to Technician Jan again when there is a purple chat icon next to his profile picture in the top-left corner of the screen. This time, Technician Jan will ask for a location on the base to hang out and have some fun, referring to the Social Room.
Build the Social Room, and you will find a mini-game inside. Now you can interact with it and play the Beer Pong mini-game with Technician Jan. During the mini-game, you will need to throw a ball inside multiple cups of beer. Whoever manages to hit all of the opponent's cups will win.
While winning or losing the mini-game causes different feelings in the opponent, it will not change the outcome of the quest.
How to Increase Base Size in The Alters
Upgrading your base size is incredibly important in The Alters to keep on top of the various resources and modules you need. Here's how to do it.
At the end of the mini-game, Technician Jan will talk to the player, telling them they don't have to listen to anyone and accept every request. Once the conversation is over, A Place to Rest will wrap up, and the lesson on Assertiveness will be unlocked.
Assertiveness refers to the ability to say no to someone. This is the key difference between Technician Jan and the real Jan Dolski. If you check out the memories of the Technician alter, the main point of separation between him and the real Jan is when the Technician confronts his father. This becomes the icon of Assertiveness in the alter life of Jan, which eventually leads him to a completely different position in life.
Learning all the lessons from all the alters in The Alters will complete the puzzle, helping Jan Dolski to learn everything he could've, without replaying his life.
