Pattinson's The Batman (2022) is a reboot of the film franchise and directed by Matt Reeves. Pattinson's The Batman was unlike most previous films because it had a gritty tone and atmospheric cinematography, giving a fresh take on the character. However, fans loved its detective-driven narrative, including the Twilight star's brooding performance. The Batman was both a critical and commercial success, so Warner Bros. Announced its sequel, The Batman - Part II, just over a month after the first movie's release. However, according to an insider, the sequel to Pattinson's Batman may not be the next film featuring The Dark Knight.

‘I Don’t Think It’s Real’ Movie Insider On The ‘Weird’ Update About The Batman Part 2

One movie scooper is not convinced of the newest rumor about The Batman Part 2.

It has been three years since The Batman 2 was announced. However, there's no definite update about its development other than its continued delay. In a recent episode of The Hot Mic, entertainment insider Jeff Sneider offered an update about the film. According to him, Reeves' upcoming superhero flick featuring Pattinson may not be the next Batman movie that fans will witness. "The signs that I'm getting is that the next Batman movie won't be The Batman 2," Sneider said. He added that the next Batman will likely be "a world's finest movie or something James Gunn-like." Sneider also speculated that if Gunn's next project is not a direct sequel to Superman, then it will likely involve Superman and Batman because Warner Bros. And DC will likely want The Dark Knight back on the big screen.

In April, there were rumors that The Batman 2 would be canceled after reports that Pattinson would appear in Dune 3. Fans were concerned there would be a conflict of schedule. Many have been looking forward to Pattinson's return as Batman, but to their dismay, it has already been pushed back at least twice. Initially, the film was set for release on October 2, 2025. However, it was moved to October 2, 2026, and then again moved to October 1, 2027. Even Pattinson, himself, joked about the sequel's delay. In an interview with Hero Magazine in March, he was asked if he was doing The Batman 2 soon and his response was hilarious. The Mickey 17 actor said he was still young when they filmed the first Batman, but he would be "old Batman by the sequel."

Considering the trajectory of The Batman 2, Sneider has a point. Pattinson's The Batman - Part II is not part of Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe. Gunn also said in previous interviews that Pattinson is unlikely to play DCU's The Dark Knight, suggesting that they will be casting another actor to be their Batman. Considering this, Gunn could release their own movie featuring the fan-favorite superhero with a new lead. However, fans might be confused if there are two Batmen.

Regardless, Batman is expected to join the DCU because he is part of the DC Comics Trinity, which includes Superman and Wonder Woman. The trio balances optimism, realism, and cynicism, and they are the most popular superheroes from DC Comics. Gunn and Safran had already introduced a new Superman in the person of David Corenswet. Many are looking forward to who will portray Wonder Woman after Gal Gadot and Batman in the revamped DCU after Ben Affleck. The only good thing about Sneider's news is that fans need not wait until 2027 to see Batman on the big screen. Unfortunately for Pattinson's fans, it will have a new and probably younger lead.

Pattinson's The Batman - Part II will hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
