There’s a lot to dissect in The Batman’s near three hours of runtime, however, now that the movie is heading to both HBO Max and Blu-Ray starting today, some clever fans are noticing details that are pretty easy to miss inside a movie theater with no pause button.
Last week it was also made public that The Batman’s Blu-ray edition would come bundled with a new deleted scene featuring Catwoman and the Penguin, alongside the usual dose of extra content included in such formats. Nevertheless, this newly found detail was not in any officially released material, but rather spotted by some very keen eyes and later confirmed by Reeves himself.
As noted, at exactly 31:55 into The Batman, there’s a shot that briefly focuses on the streets surrounding Carmine Falcone and the Penguin’s Iceberg Lounge club, yet there’s also an onlooker watching over the crucial landmark from the other side of the street, Paul Dano’s Riddler. This tiny little detail was caught by film producer Ryan Unicomb, who was a bit hesitant to single out the obscure figure as the Riddler until Reeves validated his claim.
As some fans have pointed out, this hidden Riddler appearance was at first spotted on YouTube by New Rockstars’ Erik Voss, although until now fans did not have official confirmation from Reeves himself. Just like with Spider-Man: No Way Hom e, it’s possible many viewers will continue to spot similar details or easter eggs in The Batman, especially now with the added benefit of being able to see the film anywhere at any time with extra fidelity from home.
The Batman is only the first entry in the Batverse conceived by Reeves for DC, with a Gotham Police Department come Arkham Asylum spinoff also being lined up after the planned Penguin series, which might provide some extra depth to this version of Gotham before the actual sequel starts filming. Without a doubt, The Batman fixes past problems encountered by Caped Crusader movies, especially during the troubled Ben Affleck era.
Although Reeves has expressed his happiness over being given ample creative liberties for his movie, Warner Bros. Could have bigger plans in the future for Batman once his DCEU incarnation i faced with renewed leadership on board.
The Batman’s 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions are all out now and the film is available on HBO Max.
