Take a deep breath, bat-fans... Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin have finally delivered the script for The Batman: Part II. Now, do we think they'll actually manage to finish the thing before its 2027 release date?

There has been a quiet fervor building up on the internet over the last little while surrounding the fate of The Batman: Part II. After all, since The Batman's 2022 release—which truly feels like eons ago at this point—a lot has changed for DC and Warner Bros. When that film began filming, the COVID-19 pandemic hadn't even begun, which gives you a sense of how much the filmmaking landscape has changed over the past five years. When The Batman was released after a few COVID-related delays, Black Adam hadn't even come out yet, and the DCEU was still chugging along, trying to keep people invested despite middling box office returns. Now, the DCEU is a thing of the past, Superman is about to kickstart the new DCU into full gear, and where does that leave Matt Reeves and his standalone Batman film series? Some fans have been convinced for a while now that The Batman: Part II simply will never happen, as new DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran surely want a Batman who will be interspersed with the rest of the DCU, right?

James Gunn Admits He’s ‘Irritated’ By People Over The Batman Part II Delays

James Gunn has given an honest assessment of his thoughts on fans complaining about The Batman Part II delays

After The Batman: Part II director/co-writer Matt Reeves shared a photo of a supposedly finished script on social media yesterday, Variety confirmed that the script for the highly anticipated superhero sequel is, in fact, completed. One of the things James Gunn has been hammering home over the past few months is that he wants to give the creatives working on DC Studios films time to work. Marvel Studios has a bit of a nasty habit of starting production on projects that don't have locked screenplays, and Gunn doesn't want to do that. In a recent EW interview, Gunn stated, "...let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That's just the way it is." Now, it seems like the script is finally and truly done.

After Years Of Waiting, Fans Can Rejoice At Matt Reeves Finally Finishing The Script For The Batman: Part II

Now They Simply Have To Wait Some More

Now the waiting game for the release date begins. At the time of writing, The Batman: Part II is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 1, 2027. Given that Part II was first announced back in April 2022, a 5+ year wait is quite a long time in the current age of Hollywood blockbuster sequels. Robert Pattinson himself has joked that he'll "be f***ing old Batman by the sequel." And it's somewhat true, as Pattinson will be older in The Batman: Part II than Christian Bale was when The Dark Knight Rises came out in 2012.

It's not all doom and gloom anymore, though. Gunn clearly trusts Matt Reeves' vision for The Batman: Part II, and given how the first film was received by both fans and critics, that can only be a good thing. There is no need to rush a product out the door simply because people online are complaining about it. Besides, The Batman fans were given the gift of The Penguin series on HBO just last year, which brought back Colin Farrell to critical acclaim.

It seems like The Batman: Part II is back on track, and how does that old saying go? Oh yeah, good things come to people who wait.
