Summary

  • TBATE Season 2 is confirmed as the second cour of the series, planned for next year.
  • Fans may want to start the novel or comic from the beginning due to skipped content in Season 1.
  • The release date for TBATE Season 2 is set for 2026, with potential updates at Anime Expo in 2025.

The Beginning After the End (TBATE) has been a hot topic during this season, though likely not for the reasons the animation team had hoped. Frequently compared with Solo Leveling, anime fans had high expectations for this series, and it seems the anime hasn't managed to live up to them.

Still, there's hope. A second season has already been confirmed and could be the opportunity to leave a much stronger impression. So, what exactly can fans expect from The Beginning After the End Season 2?

Some people are comparing The Beginning After The End to Solo Leveling, but does that make sense?

The Beginning After the End Season 2 Is in the Works

The Beginning After the End recently finished airing, but a second season has already been announced, leaving many fans shocked. The anime, produced by Studio A-Cat, was heavily criticized by fans for its animation quality. In the opinion of many, the animation is stiff and didn't do justice to the original story.

TBATE was considered a potential "new Solo Leveling," since these are two webnovels that were adapted into webcomics and soon peaked in popularity within the niche. Both are also part of Crunchyroll's investment in the production of new anime. Once Studio A-Cat was confirmed to be in charge of the animation, many didn't know what to expect since they weren't familiar with any of the studio's previous work. Nonetheless, they were still frustrated with what was delivered. The series suffered such an intense backlash that many couldn't believe it would ever get a sequel.

The anime adaptation has been a huge learning experience collaborating in an industry with so many different people across Tapas, Studio A-Cat, and Crunchyroll, who all bring their own unique vision of what TBATE the anime could be. At the end of the day, there will always be creative differences in the room, but I really do believe that everyone is coming at it with their best effort and intentions.

Season 2 Is Actually TBATE Cour 2

TBATE Season 2 has been greenlit, but there is a catch. The series was already confirmed to have a total of 24 episodes, but the first season only ran for 12 episodes. This means that Season 2 is actually the second cour that had previously been confirmed for a future release. Typically, there's little reason to believe that a second cour will be different from the first one in terms of animation quality.

However, the second season will only air next year, so the production will have some time to potentially make some adjustments, depending on how things progress. While it would be better to keep realistic expectations, it is hard to imagine that the production team is not aware of the feedback. Additionally, the final episodes were generally better received than the first ones, which is rare in this industry, and suggests that the production has already tried to make a few changes to improve the animation. Thus, there is a chance that The Beginning After the End Season 2 will be much better than the first one.

Where to Start the Novel or Comic After Season 1?

The first season covered up to Chapter 29 of the original novel ("Sword and Body"), which is the middle of Volume 2 and corresponds to Episodes 80–82 on Tapas. This means that it also ended with Chapter 56 of the webtoon ("All I Need"), which matches Episodes 67–68 on Tapas. However, the TBATE anime skipped many parts, including important battles and events, so it might be better to start from the beginning. Essentially, the anime adapted the second season of the webcomic.

Anyway, in short, these are the options:

  • Webnovel: start with "Last Leg" (Chapter 30 in Volume 2), or Episode 83 on Tapas
  • Webcomic: start with Chapter 57 ("The Masked Swordsman"), or Episode 69 on Tapas
  • Start with Chapter 1 to enjoy skipped content

When Will TBATE Season 2 Be Released?

The second season of The Beginning After the End is set to be released in 2026. However, no release month has been revealed, which may be a good sign in this case, as it could mean that the production team is taking more time to work on the series and hasn't decided exactly when the series will return yet.

Crunchyroll might drop more information about the next season at Anime Expo 2025 in early July. But major news is likely to surface by the end of the year, or maybe at the beginning of 2026, depending on when they plan to air the second season. This means that fans will have to wait a little longer to get a trailer and to check whether the animation differs from Season 1, and this will be the perfect time for the production to impress them and show how good TBATE can be.

The Beginning After the End is available to watch on Crunchyroll, subbed and dubbed in English and other languages.
