Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is getting a Survivors mode, Ubisoft has announced. Based on the currently available information, the newly confirmed addition looks like an expanded edition of the Survival mode from the first The Division game.
Tom Clancy's The Division received Survival mode in November 2016, roughly eight months following its original release. The experience challenged players to brave subzero blizzards, monitor their vitals and supplies, collect antivirals, and ultimately extract via a helicopter. As such, Survival offered a mixture of PvE elements and high-stakes urgency, delivering a tense experience that offered something different from the base game. Between Survival mode and the Dark Zone—which shared a similar premise but with less challenging conditions—The Division is widely regarded as a pioneer of the extraction genre. And though Ubisoft never followed up on it, that's soon set to change.

The Division 2 Adding Survival Mode in 2026
During the still-ongoing 2025 edition of Gamescom, Ubisoft announced a plethora of news related to The Division franchise, including a Survivors mode for The Division 2. Officially framed as an updated version of The Division 1's Survival, the newly confirmed feature is presently targeting a 2026 launch. Its development is helmed by series veteran Magnus Jansén, the creative director of Far Cry 3, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and the first Division game.
The Division Franchise Content Roadmap
Regarding the specifics of the newly announced The Division 2 mode, Ubisoft isn't saying much yet. The company did release four pieces of concept art illustrating Survivors, which also include a new logo that will accompany the upcoming release. The contents of the images suggest that surviving subzero temperatures and helicopter extractions will both be making a return.
As of August 2025, Survivors is still in an early stage of development, which is why it's presently lacking a release window more specific than "2026." Ubisoft's current plan is to engage the community as the project progresses, with executive producer Julian Gerighty promising clear communication and regular opportunities for The Division 2 players to provide feedback to developer Massive Entertainment, potentially influencing the design of the upcoming extraction mode. More details on Survivors are promised to follow in the coming months.
Why Will The Division 2 Players Have to Wait 7 Years for an Extraction Mode?
With Q4 2025 being on the horizon and in light of the extraction mode's target launch window, Survivors seems more likely to materialize in the second half of 2026 rather than the first. This timing would place its release after The Division 2 marks its seventh anniversary next March. While seven years is a long wait to add a popular mode from its predecessor, one possible reason for the delay may be tied to The Division Heartland. Announced in 2021 as a free-to-play survival shooter, The Division Heartland was canceled in early 2024, creating an opportunity for The Division 2 to introduce an extraction mode of its own without competing against another similar Ubisoft title.
